Video: New Cinematic Presets for LayR Demo
Hey guys, a new batch of presets I am working on for LayR is very close to being done, and I am really happy with how they have turned out. Feels like I uncover a new method of sound design every time I work with this app, and I've put a lot of that exploration into these new presets. They're of the cinematic flavor, inspired by many of the great synth-based scores throughout the years, and will be included in an upcoming LayR update. The bank consists of a number of arp and sequence presets, as well as a variety of giant strings, synth and brass pads, macabre drones and somber keys. I've also made several "kits" that contain an assortment of sub bass impacts, sweeps, transitions and a variety of textures. All of the sounds in this demo video I put together are from the new bank. Excited to share these with you guys!

Really would like to map all the parameters on an external controller, hoping for a kind of total recall/takeover mode for midi templates, maybe the dev has figured out a clever way to keep the mappings for the next update?

Aweseome @brice ! I'm still wavering on the fence as well. I liked the demo @RedSkyLullaby did too. All sounds up my alley. Just apprehensive that maybe I don't have the skill yet to design sounds this well from scratch. Tim Webb's video of him trying to design one from scratch kind of gave me pause from taking the plunge.

Are these presets going to released in the app, or through some other channel?
I don't recall LayR having any in-app liner notes feature a la Model 15, and what I'm most interested in is some background on all these sound design methods you've discovered!

I'm not sure, but I agree...save/load MIDI map functionality would be a great thing. I've kind of devised a workaround for this, but it only works when creating new patches from square one. Open the default INIT preset and setup all your preferred mappings. Then save that as an alternate default instrument or performance preset. You can then use that as the basis for any new presets you create and it will be mapped accordingly. It's not ideal, but can be helpful if you find yourself making a lot of sounds.

I've yet to work out a proper signal routing that accomodates headphone monitoring, signal into another iPad for Audio Spectrum, MIDI and power into my main iPad. I must choose my battles wisely.
@brice I may finally get LayR. But, do you know about when the next update might drop with these presets? Or, are they shared on the LivingMemory forum? Maybe a dropbox link?

This is the first synth since Animoog and Nave I get lost in 1 preset fiddling myself for an hour just enjoying the massive number of parameters and sonic bombshells.

Right @brice , I can't let go of this video of yours. I suggest you just record 45-60 minutes of that and release it. To me that'd be an instant purchase AND I wouldn't have to re-start the video every 10 minutes, which is currently running as my background music when working.

I love this synth. Anybody know how to get it to run through separate channels in ab3 or aum? Ever time I tried I get no sound. Also, Anybody have some sound advice on what parameters to control using a midi keyboard. I generally map the filter to the mod wheel but never really go beyond that. This synth is begging for more but I don't know where to begin really.
Sure, in AUM setup multiple channels according to your needs.
Back in LayR tap+slide where it says "main" on each layer and choose the channel number you'd like for that layer to be sent to in AUM.
That should be all you need to do in order to setup a multi-out session.
As far as what parameters to modulate, it really depends a lot on the sound you are after,or the preset you have loaded. But if you are wanting to experiment and see what comes of it then you could get some interesting results by modulating LFO speed, LFO shape, OSC morph and FM amounts. But honestly, given that you can modulate every parameter, I would do that and not limit yourself to the ones I just mentioned. Setup a patch where the modwheel modulates basically everything to varying degrees. Or, if you have a controller with knobs / sliders, set those up across many parameters. It can all be useful. Also, don't forget you can modulate the FX sends and panning on each instrument. That can be useful as well.

You know I fully encourage that decision, Skip! I'm not sure when the update is planned, but I do know that Andy is working on it...Link and MIDI out being the two major additions. As for the presets, they only exist on my iPad at the moment. Still have a few things to tidy up and test. But....keep an eye on your PM alerts in a day or so. Some "stuff" could be headed your way
