iOS 10.3.2 : Battery issues again?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2017/05/18/apple-ios-10-3-2-iphone-battery-life-problems/

I woke up to a new update on my iPad and after many debates of "should I or shouldn't I" I did my due diligence and researched the dot update and it seems bug fixes & security tightening is the bulk of it, no new features.

But as the Forbes article states battery drain issues are being reported, so until the dust settles I'm gonna stay put for now...Anyone go ahead and update yet?

Comments

  • I've updated my 6 and did notice excessive battery drain the morning after; but it seems it was an isolated incident, as it's been fine since. No issues to report otherwise.

Eeek! Update just averted, thanks! (Me? Jumpy? no...;) )

  • Humm ... I updated last night because I've been having battery drain issues, hoping that it would fix them. I've had the iPad open a few times, maybe 15 minutes total, and battery is still at 100%. Normally I'd see that down some even after 15 minutes.

I'll see how it goes today, but so far, 10.3.2 is looking like an improvement from my perspective.

  • On my 6s I have not noticed any battery issues. seems the same

  • Did not notice any change in batterylife after upgrading my iPhone 7.

  • Is the Air 2 rotation bug fixed, he asked, expecting the answer to be no...

  • No battery issues here. I do notice that there seems to be excessive drain right before I get the pop up that a new OS is ready to install. So perhaps the background download of the update has something to do with that.

  • Yeah, it's usually good idea to give it 3-4 days to let the dust settle after installing before becoming really concerned about battery drain issues: there's always a bunch going on in the background for a while.

  • Jajaja. I think There's articles like that for every version of iOS.

Haven't noticed anything on any of my devices.

Not sure on this. I have an Air 2 (that was until recently on 10.3) and it works ok most of the time. About once every 3-4 weeks the rotation gets stuck and my fix is to turn ON the "Reduce Motion" setting in General / Accessibility, lock the screen for a few seconds, unlock, turn OFF the Reduce Motion then reboot the iPad. This then fixes it for the next few weeks. I only updated to 10.3.2 last week but no rotation bug yet...

Edit: no battery issues for me either on iPad Air 2 or iPhone 6s.

  • I'm fairly convinced that either the 10.3.2 update, or simply the deep reboots and cleanup done by the upgrade process have made a significant improvement to battery life on my Air 2. I was having some noticeable increased drain before the update, and now it's working better than ever.

    ymmv

Thanks brother for the first hand report. I have read a few other articles that seem to point to later iPhone only isolated experiences. You and a few other cats w/Air 2's on a tech forum said the update was fine in the their experience. So I'm going to jump in...

This will probably be my last update for my Air 2 barring some of my fav apps going iOS 11 and above before the thing takes a dump permanently. Since many still use iPad 1's to watch movies and iPad 2's and above for almost anything else (high end audio & video stuff not withstanding) I figure my Air 2 will be operational for some time now (isn't that an Emperor Palpatine quote from Return of the Jedi? Lol...).

@MonzoPro The rotation bug only happens once in a great while for me...I hope if you jump to this update it solves it for you, and all of us.

  • I have found some tips for how to Improve iOS 11 Battery Life On iPhone

  • I sold my Air 2 a few months ago and now have a 2017 model. There's a huge difference - battery life in the new model is much longer.

I've noticed a steady decline with my battery life with every ios update. My mini 2 is at10.3.2 at the moment and when ios 11 comes I may not update. Just to be a little cynical but Ithink it's Apples way of getting us to purchase newer devices for more $

  • Could be. Could also be that your battery is just getting worse as part of the normal life cycle.

That said, with every update Apple will add something that runs in the background, or which in some way sucks power. Familiarizing yourself with those (and switching of the stuff you don't want) can really help. In particular, switch off background and notifications for all apps that you really don't care about. This helps a lot.

Yes that's true the mini 2 has been used alot but still is working. I guess the battery starts to get tired. At this moment I think the only app I have wth notifications on is BM3. And I'm always trying to remind myself to close down other apps and such to help the performance
