MIDI channels for Audiobus (Midiflow Channels is out)
Finally another Midiflow app is out. Those who like to (or have to) work with MIDI channels can now filter and remap channels, by adding this app into a MIDI effect slot.
If you don't know what this is about, you probably won't need this app. AB3 has introduced multi-instance MIDI ports and developers of multi-timbral synths or sequencers should definitely use them instead of making the user work with channels. However, as we know, there are existing apps that rely on channels. And if you're using MIDI hardware, you can't get around them either. So, if channels have been part of your MIDI workflow, this app is for you.

I have Midiflow adapter - do I need this ?
same question as @Trueyorky. the adapter suits my needs for channel selector really well. not sure why i'd need this over it.....
Here's one use case: Sonic Logic is an AB3 Midi sender, meaning it can load directly in AB3 without using the adapter. It can send on multiple channels. If you wanted to have it send to a couple of AUs in the output slots, each controlled by a separate channel, you couldn't do it because each one would receive every channel.
It's really only needed if you want to leverage an AB3 Midi sender that doesn't have AB3 Midi ports yet.
Amazingly, this came up last night, and was already being released as I posted the need for it.
It is also useful with apps that support IAA MIDI, but also always receive on Core MIDI (like iGrand Piano). Just set that app to a distinct channel. Then you can use it within a MIDI receiver slot, and use Midiflow Channels in the filter slot to remap to that channel. I think, this setup is a bit easier than with the Adapter.
Yes, what a coincidence
This app has been ready for release for a couple of weeks, but then other things came up...
Works great! I have a single screen built with Sonic Logic to control four separate AU's with no switching around. Thanks @JohannesD
@wim Glad that it works for you
works nicely! allows to do AB3 midi things with multiple SampleTank instruments, for example. of course, the challenges to record those instrumets individually remain.
But still, great addition to the AB3 toolbox @JohannesD
Does this app only work with apps that support IAA MIDI? I'm trying to use it with Pitea by Markus Sigg (https://appsto.re/us/UxuUO.i), which uses Core MIDI only.
If this won't work with Core MIDI, does anyone know of a workaround?
Midiflow Adapter for Audiobus 3 by Johannes Doerr
https://appsto.re/us/x0hejb.i
Hi Johannes,
See if you can follow me here... I have Animoog and SampleTank open inside of Audiobus 3. I'm controlling both apps from my LinnStrument using a split keyboard setup, with each split sending on different MIDI channels, which I can specifiy on the LinnStrument itself. So far, so good. However, Animoog is in MPE mode, which unfortunately means that it's receiving on all 16 MIDI channels simultaneously, and there's no way to change that in the app (Geert, if you read this, please add MIDI channel filters to the Moog apps, it's imperative for MPE). So anyway, even though I've chosen to send only channels 1-8 to Animoog from its dedicated split on the LinnStrument, Animoog still responds to the channels I'm using in the other split to control SampleTank.
Okay, so... I thought the solution would be to use your Midiflow Channels app to simply prevent Animoog from receiving on channels 9-16. On the MIDI page in Audiobus 3, in the input slot, I selected the USB host port that the LinnStrument is using, then I placed your Channels app in the FX slot, and of course Animoog in the output slot. In Channels, I have only channels 1-8 activated, with 9-16 blacked out, and currently the output section is set to "same" (although admittedly I don't know what that means, and I can't seem to find any manual for the app). At any rate, the end result is that Animoog is no longer seeing the LinnStrument at all (in fact, there are no available connections showing up on the MIDI setup page inside Animoog whatsoever). Not only that, but Animoog has disappeared as a Virtual MIDI port inside other apps, and no clock or transport information is getting through either... (sigh).
What am I doing wrong? Should this not work?
Thanks in advance for your time. Of course, if anyone else knows what's wrong, feel free to let me know...
Cheers!
