Icepulse's Rhythm Roulette Extravaganza

@Icepulse said:
There's a lot of **** talk here, but I'll put it out; let's set up a "Rhythm Roulette" right here and now. We'll need a 3rd party to choose (3) full albums (all available via YouTube, so everyone has the same access).

Make a beat from samples of these sources. Simple as that. 1 min. or longer. All sounds must come from those 3 sources. If you want to use synths, etc.... fine. I'll track in synths too. I'm easy.

SO anyone want to kick this off with three albums from Youtube?

  • Let's go.

  • Thanks unto thee brother luke of the walking sleep

  • I'd kind of like to see some less mainstream stuff, but I'll work with this if nothing else pops up.

I will take a stab at any groups of three.

I think this album has some fun sampling possibilities.

This one may be the original dance/'trance' LP

And I chose this one because it has no percussion (don't worry, the crickets ease up)

I'm no sampler guy, and it's not so mainstream, so how's that for a third party?
I'll look forward to hearing what you guys come up with either way.

    Do both sets! :)

  • Very much looking forward to hearing the results of this challenge.

  • I'm going with the second set. The nature of Rhythm Roulette is exactly what you
see; 3 albums, your pick of tracks. Believe me.. with those albums? You'll find your challenge. LOL.

yah, i started sampling in the 80s with pretty mainstream department store vinyl (all they had where i lived way up north) and did my share of Marley and Parliament already. Never did try the Clash. So I knew what we would have been in for. I kind of liked the idea of the challenge with the albums being chosen by a third party (makes it kind of random) and aproaching it in a 'come hell or high water' aproach, even if it were Lou Reeds noise album. Lol, ;). Anyway, have fun.

Although I probably shot myself in the foot by passing on the first 3. LOL.

Not too late! I just think it is more fun when people are on the same page. more suprises! What say we try both? i agree the first one is likely to sound more hindered.

  • Hehe, Ok, so for the first set am thinking of just doing a 'sacrificial-one-hour-fuck-this-shit-track' then I will spend more time on the second one with a clean start just to clear it out of the way.

  • Y'all should have given me input on what albums you were looking for before I made suggestions. What would be more challenging is to use movies or other non musical source material.

I'm sorry I put you through that!

I have no problem with these at all. Having a blast. :)

  • OK, here is my first entry. This is the Bob Marley, Clash, Parliament mix. The only additional samples I added were the bass drum and snare you hear at the very beginning. Everything else is from the three albums with FX. I won't spend more than three hours on these things because a) I don't own the source, so why go too deep mixing b) it is too nice outside :)

Having 3 whole albums is not that much of a challenge, that is a lot of material to work, over at DV we only use one album for the monthly challenge.

    DV?

Luckily they post wavs as a zip i am not doing this YouTube stuff haha

I checked out the Camille 3000 zip, very sampler friendly stuff. Reminds me of Amon Tobin already.
