What is this?
Anyone have a clue what this item might be? I vaguely recall that it might be a musical device, but I'm not certain.
I picked it up either in India or possibly somewhere in Southeast Asia.

Thanks! I have a 7-metal singing bowl I picked up several years ago in Dharamsala and thought maybe it was from the same trip. No idea how or why I have this, but good to finally know what it's for.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I still think the moustache answer works best...
I'm the firestarter!
Don't ask me... I thought it was a musical instrument![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
It's an ancient torture device. One side has a string tied to it. The other side....you don't wanna know.![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/trollface.png)
I think Billy Joel used to use it, but he didn't start the fire.

Striker
Some kind of jew's harp?
That's originally what I thought. I did find the striking/flint stone to go with this, so it'll make a nice addition to the "bug-out" bag that I haven't started yet.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I've got another emergency fire starter that I got as a gift. I can only imagine actually getting a fire going with one of these. It's hard enough with a lighter sometimes.
Several years ago I met a guy out in the desert in Mexico. He was from New Mexico and I think he'd come from a lot of money. Yet, he was trying to live without money at all and had been at it for a couple years or so. He went by the name "Wind" and I watched him make a mattress out of small wood twigs to sleep on. He was tanning his own leather using cow brains, in order to make new leather shoes for himself. And, I watched him start a fire with two sticks and a piece of twine. I offered my lighter but he insisted. It took him a good 20mins, but he did it.
I had a lot of respect for "Wind". And, I bet this metal striker device and flint stone would've been too modern for him.
tanning his own leather using cow brains
My new measuring stick and mantra for personal resourcefulness. I will repeat this from now on when the Kid/Missus complain as regards our seat assignments etc.
Yeah, it was strange. He didn't want to use any industrial chemicals and evidently the agents needed are within cow brains.
The more you know!
