ios 11 iPad "Productivity Features" and Music

Thoughts.

Split screen in spaces might make it way easier to manage setups.

Files may make sample management easier.

  • And I'm liking that new dock/multitasker thingy.

  • But i still didn't even heard about much apps support split screen. Let's hope it's not a forgotten feature.

  • Sounds like Federico Viticci wasn’t too far off the mark, at least in terms of the direction in which the iPad is going.
But what does it mean for musicking apps? File management does enhance AudioShare (and doesn’t make it redundant, at least in my workflow). But not so clear about the rest, especially in terms of how easy it will be for devs to implement new features taking advantage of these.

  • If more apps supported split screen, that new feature for selecting a setup of different split screen apps would be nice.

Mostly, I really wish split screen would work on iPad in portrait... sadly, no news of that.

  • The new dock looks really nice for app-switching in a music session.

  • So I guess this 'Files' feature means one can access files (Say, Sample-Wav etc.) for any app by this file system... Correct?

  • I'm assuming it's that and I hope it is. For me this is the biggest drawback with ios. Thanks to apps like audioshare though.

God only know how many duplicate file I have om my iPad... Will be nice to store/access all samples in one place...

If Files is what it sounds like it is, that will save me about 30gb

  • Me too. It would be great if presets/samples could be stored in the same place but something tells me it's something different. Seems to be more like a centralized place to manage all the files on the ipad. Meaning everything is still sandboxed but you can see it all in one place. I'm just speculating though. Have to wait and see.

Folders and subfolders sounds good though.

It especially bites with large soundfonts.

I do have a lot of percussion samples that I store in audio share now that I may move to "files"
