Who's using JamUp already w/Audiobus?

Hi everyone! JR here from Positive Grid to discuss all things JamUp and JamUp PRO mobile guitar app.

So who’s using it already through Audiobus? Have you replaced your physical amp and/or pedals for practicing, recording or live gigs with JamUp?

JR.

I'm running completely Inside The Box at this point. :-)

  • I use it all the time. The first amp sim thingy I've ever really gotten along with. I do wish it had stereo paths because synths and such sound awesome through it - and some would sound super super lollipop awesome if they retained their stereo info along the way. Things like drums that are already panned really suffer.

It hasn't exactly replaced my pedals and amps but I do use them less often these days!

I love jam up. Thanks for all the work and welcome to the forum.

  • I use it with Audiobus for recording and practice. I rarely use my amp now.

  • No amp for me, just the iPad and Jam up.

  • I don't have a physical amp to replace anymore, but I will soon. I'm sure I will stick with JamUp for practising and recording stuff onto my iPad, but for live situations, rehearsals, and recording full-bore metal mayhem (which is a fair percentage of what I use my guitar for), I have my doubts that JamUp would be able to serve me. For what I use it for though, it's brilliant! And yes, through audiobus.

  • I'm using JUPro in all my studiosessions alongside with another amp sim app and with
Audiobus + Auria for my iPad recordings. No more heavy amps...

  • JamUp is my go to Guitar input. The more presets the better. I want even more banks so I can save a bunch for guitars, synths, drums, etc....

  • Is that the French Rivera?

  • So far over the head it appeared on air traffic control's radar.

  • I love it, use it with AB often. Great for me since I can't play through my big tube amp due to neighbors and my sleeping kids.

  • I find the input level into Cubasis from Jamup quite low compared to Amplitube when using my Behringer UCA interface.

  • Yep, using JamUp only. No hardware here. Tried the others too and currently only have JamUp on my iPad.

  • I have quite a bit invested in both this one and Ampkit, so I keep both, and I like how they complement each other. But Jam Up is the one I've been grabbing first and most often. :-)

  • Really cool guys, please feel free to get in touch with me for anything JamUp related. For the moment it would be great if you can share some of your recordings made with JamUp!!

    JR

  • Like Audiojunkie, I too use JU and AK with nearly all of the add on's. There is plenty of tones available and the customization is quite nice. Thanks for providing us with an excellent alternative. My POD XT died a while back and JU/AK are great replacements. My tube amps rarely get fired up as well.

Many thanks to listening to users who asked for more than the one bank offered initially. I remember emailing that request and was asked why would anyone need more than one bank :-) .

The only issue I currently have is that my Behringer FCB 1010 MIDI footboard no longer works properly after the update before last. Any press on the pedal for a different preset results in complete silence though no volume control is sent. I have to restart JU in order to get it sounding again. I hope that it can be straightened out sometimes soon.

Thanks for chiming in here on the greatest iOS forum on the net.

  • Rude Duke , the duo i'm in , we use jamup almost all the time for both guitars and bass.
here s a recording , all done with jamup for guitar and bass

  • That song is all funked up @Evangelos! Love it! I use JamUp Pro and Ampkit quite a bit, but I still use my Blackstar and Bogner as well. I gotta justify the cost of those somehow ;-). If I had seen what was coming in the iOS world, I could have saved a good deal of money though....probably around $2K!

  • As Evangelos mentioned, on Funkaholic we used Jamup. I've used the Ampeg SVT Blue Line the followed by the HPF pedal set on 40hz, and the LA2 comp set on 20 for peak limiting.

  • Thanks man :) , i wrote it really quickly and we had so much fun.
Blackstar and Bogner are top products, you should be proud!
For the rhythm guitar ( guitar was a CV 50's Squier Fender Telecaster)i used Dr. Z and chorus , for the lead wah solo, the Marshall 900 with the wah pedal and the ibanez green pedal and for the clean lead it was the Black Lux cranked :)
Guy Mauseth , the bassist, used his Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass with SVT Blue Line amp, HPF pedal , LA2 comp. Guy is currently beta testing for Positive Grid and Jamup and Positive Grid is very lucky to have him on board , because apart from being a brilliant bassist , he is very into technical sound stuff.

  • Thanks Evangelos!

Here is an other recording of Rude Duke, also a song Evangelos wrote. On this one I've used my Squier CV60 P bass. The amp I've used is the Hiway 103. Yes, a guitar amp. But, Hiwatt 103 is beautiful for crunchy bass tone!!!

  • Definitely love the Blackstar (5W) and the Bogner (40W), although I doubt many of my neighbors like the Bogner! Anyway, I do like the fact that JamUp Pro and Ampkit do amp modeling, so I can get a broader palette.

JR, I use it all the time: acoustic guitar > Scarlett 2i2 > JamUp > Loopy HD. It has sucked me into hours of headphone jamming, and I've used it in a few live gigs. It doesn't replace my hardware because... I have none, it just expands possibilities where none existed before.

My latest joy was discovering how the octaver can fatten up percussive hits to build drum loops. So fun.

I would send iOS synths thru it too but Jamup flattens everything to mono, so that doesn't often work for me.

    Great app anyway! Thanks

  • I use you and luv your sound...,but how about spreading some luv?...give us loyal junkies some price cuts on those hot tamale fxs..

    @JrPositiveGrid

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it made me download the free version of JamUp and I'm really impressed. Thinking how it could replace my aged GT-8 but my main thing is control of parameters. Tried assigning midi to volume control and it is moving the volume slider/fader (FCB1010) but the volume does not change :/
It does change if I move the slider/fader by touch on screen.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Really looking forward to the full version and mutron emus :)))

On positive note (no pun intended;) the new midi updated sorted it out, but I made a new bug :/
when I take the volume with the pedal all the way down and then bring it back, strange artefacts get into the sound. It sounds as if the CPU would be spiking and not handling the load, but that would be strange as it does not happen when the volume is left alone.

Emailed you support back so maybe something will be done about this too, anyway, great tool, but as of now still a tad too unstable to use on stage...
the mutron and qtron are my favs!! :)

  • Use it all the time - in fact I'd guess at least 70% of the time JamUp and AudioShare are in my Effects/Output slots. :)

I've also got a decent amount of use with it with my guitar - it's let me play with a lot of equipment that I wouldn't ever dream to afford. (The only guitar pedal I have is a DS-1 that I got on clearance at Best Buy some time ago.)

  • @ToniFranco

You can download the latest JamUp v2.4.4 and it should solve that problem.

  • Really nice demos guys and thanks for the comments. For now, don't miss to check out our latest demo video with Misha Mansoor from Periphery, really sick sounds to say the least.

  • I use jam up pro with AB with apogee jam for practice and recording on ipad 3. Also use a Fender Mustang 3 when playing live.

  • Since the topic is "JamUp with Audiobus" can I make a request:

Please allow us to specify which MIDI channel JamUp will receive MIDI signals. With audiobus we can have a lot of MIDI flying around and it just doesnt work to have apps that can't be set to specific MIDI parameters.

I do love that MIDI is included, but it's gotta be done right.

  • @JrPositiveGrid Since you are here, I have a question for you. Is there an elegant way to use the effects in Jamup clean with Audiobus without using the amps--just use Jamup in the effects slot for effects processing (for non-guitar instruments and such)? I'm sure it can be done with an amp, but I'm thinking for non-guitar use and purposes....
