Interface Preamp
Hey gang,
Looking to get a true interface to bump up from the irigHD.
I recently got the new Lightning to Lightning and USB3.0 connector allowing use of any USB class compliant interface with my iOS devices. Would be nice using the same interface on PC too. Looking for one with midi input so that I can use that for switching and stuff.
My biggest question is how do the converters ADC and DAC affect the tone and audio quality of the recordings?
Especially interested in how the interface preamps affect amp sim and fx sim stuff.
looking under $200

ok so what will give me a great preamp under 200?
heard some good things about the steinberg ur22
I confess I'm a bit of a Tascam fanboy anyway, but the US-2X2 interace I'm using is really quite incredible for the price (under $200).
A couple months after I got mine Tascam put out the iXR interface, basically the exact same interace as the US-2X2 but in a less rugged housing & with a direct USB-Lightning port out to the iDevice so a CCK isn't needed like a US-2x2 needs.
I like to think I probably still would've bought the US-2X2 based on its structure and build quality but if the iXR was really next to it no I probably would've got it. Price is very similar.
The preamps in the Tascam units are super clear HDDR amps with very little noise & tons of headroom. Unless I had the money to make the jump to an Apogee I'd take the Tascam over the Presonus, Focusrite, Steinberg, etc. models.
need the USB 3.0 adapter so that I can charge while using it. and I would like something that is universal to the iOS setup and my pc
Yeah in that instance you'd want the Tascam US-2X2 that requires the CCK and is totally PC /Mac ready. Although I think the iXR is for PC/Mac as well.
I would go focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Excellent pre's excellent build quality. 149 or less
