Forgot to ask if you could spend a little time on Dot Melody. Promo and upgrade. Everyone in IOS music has heard of Patterning, but way too few folks know what a gem Dot Melody is and what it can do.

If, by some chance, it were to gain AU, that would surely help raise its profile.

    +1..... Thank You ...

I have got a question about copy rights though:
I bought the MPC Samples sound of the underground bundle about a year ago, and build some of my most used Patterning kits (DJ Shadow anyone?) with them. Would love to share those, but would that be allowed?
Some how I think it is technically not completely allowed, but since it is non commercial and for a small market they do not sell in, it still would be ok.
And furthermore, if I share them, should I or should not use their name?
    Cheers,

    Erik

If you share them, you should not use their name. Only you own the license to those samples; they are technically not for distribution.

  • There's no technically about it. The license doesn't allow you to distribute the samples as part of a sample pack only to include them within any composition you may make.

They are currently selling the pack for £75! So are unlikely to appreciate you giving the samples away free!

good thing I am checking before uploading then :-)

  • And please tell us the name of the Kit :)

This type of sharing is against the terms of service that you must agree to before uploading kits. :)

Yeah... I am afraid it is.. tough luck for you guys, their samples are great. I am writing an email to them now to see if I can persuade them to either let me share a limited number of kits, or to get into contact with you to maybe provide a few free kit as promotion of their samples.

This is one of the coolest features I've seen added to an app!

Positive Grid's guitar amp sim preset cloud sharing is similar but allowing samples to be shared amongst the community on one of the best drum apps on the platform is just so cool & useful.

It's still very early on but browsing through the cloud kits I noticed very little by way of acoustic kits, so I uploaded one in hopes of getting the ball rolling.

    Your acoustic kit is NICE!
    Thanks!
Will make 2 acoustic kits tomorrow! Andy preferences for modern or vintage? just shared a vintage indie acoustic... more tomorrow...

  • Awesome surprise. Havin loads of fun

This is why I seldom if ever buy or use samples that have licence restrictions, it can get too muddy real quick.

I mostly just use acoustic drum samples or samples via Virtual Instruments/apps and have two seperate umbrella folders, one for free, creative commons, open licence samples & one for limited license, pay to play samples. That paid samples folder only has 2 collections of drums I got from DrumDrops, the rest (over 1GB worth) are in the free & clear folder.

The last thing Olympia Noise/Ben needs is some beef with a sample library company. The beauty is there are so many free open licence samples around today that it would take years for the community to put just 20% of them on Cloud Kits.

Thanks @erikb1971, I got yours and love it. Any kit with real drums just is like instant grab for me. Because if you want it to sound trippy or more "electronic", especially with Patterning, you canuse the filters, delay and the excellent control over tuning to mangle "regular acoustic drum" samples into some crazy shit.

And speaking of crazy shit, @pantsofdeath is laying down some otherworldly kits on the kit cloud. Thanks to you man for adding so much gold so early in the game. Plus he puts the coolest names & covers to his kits, the 'banner' kit with Bill Bixby's green eyes in mid-Hulk Up is badass.

I hope everyone in the community who uses Patterning will add stuff, it's a really great idea and can ve a resource for us all.

  • @benkamen
Was not expecting this, thanks for your continued support!

    Shouldn't share them.

Well, a few might be duffers. The slugs is a bit neo goth EDM.
But I TRY to be an optimist since in reality I'm miserably negative.

I really appreciate the addition of acoustic kits.
I love the working process of Patterning, but until now, so much available was variations on bleeps, bloops, clicks, and clangs.
    Thanks.

  • How do you provide a kit to the cloud for others to download?

There is a share button on the top right corner in the drum kit page. This will start the share process for the currently selected drum kit!

Making a demo video this afternoon. Will share here.

... and another one just in time for bedtime. :-) slowly getting somewhere. Really liking the jazz it kit by sounds of Israel as well!

  • How to upload to Cloud Kit :

  • Just to make sure: it's not possible to import folders of samples via iCloud import, correct? If not, any workarounds for avoiding tedium and mess of importing a bunch of individual drum hits? How do folks even manage their own samples in this baby? Audioshare as proxy storage/organizer, I gather? But still the disorganized clutter gathers within.
