iOS10 on an iPad Air 1, should I?
Hi guys.
Just looking for opinions on this one.
I've got an iPad air 1 64gb running iOS 8.1
I've never bothered to update it because i never wanted to lose speed but it's getting to a point now where i can't really avoid it anymore.
I want to be able to use AudioUnits, I want to be able to use the latest Garage Band and I want to be able to use Bassalicious by GospelMusicians.
If I remember correctly, iOS 8 came alongside the iPad Air. That was probably nearly 3 years ago?
Talk of iOS 11 makes me need to get a wriggle on. So honest opinions folks, would it perform OK?
From my experience (if memory serves), apps which are on the heavier end include:
- Nave
- Sunrizer
- Gadget
I guess you could also include DAWs in the list but I don't really use them too much..
I welcome any opinion.

I say update. Nave and Sunrizer work fine for me on iOS 10.3.2 and Air 1.
Have gadget but do not use that much.
No idea on the bass app. I am very pleased with what the air1 is still capable of and still make use of it even though I have an iPad Pro 12.9.
Thinking I will upgrade the air1 128 to the new iPad 10.5 256 since I really like that form factor too.
Everything it's better than iOS 8.
I have an iPad Air 1 running iOS 10. No problems here with any of the apps you mentioned. Keep in mind though Apple won't allow the Garageband version of Alchemy to run on anything less than an Air 2 or iPhone 6.

got an ipad air 1 alsi on ios 10. runs great.
Air1 here too. No problems with latest apart from lack of Alchemy in GB. Currently looking at upgrade paths though as the 1 often runs out of space. (I know, my fault)
You forgot to mention that iOS 10 increase your total space. My iPad air2 64 went from 55gb available to 60.5gb total space (rest is reserved for os)
I have an Air 1 and Mini 2 on the latest version of iOS. Both are fine and I haven't noticed any performance degradation at all, though I don't tend to stress them as others do.
Bassalicious runs just fine under iOS10.3.2
(I'll be going full on iOS11 on my iPad Air 2 when it gets released).
