drumperfect pro linking hi hats open/closed

hey, i'm on the drumperfect pro learning curve, it's quite a steep one but i'm getting some great results so far. can anyone tell me how to set up the hi hats so that if i have an open and a closed one sounding at the same time then i can set it to randomly pick one or the other please? i've tried using the link function but so far to no avail.. cheers

@Extnctn6: yes that can be done. You'll have to use the "linked set" feature for that. The trick is to swap the velA/velB settings for the closed and open hihat stroke respectively. In more detail:

    • Program the closed hihat stroke with velA=1 and velB=0. Set its probability to 0.5
    • Program the open hihat stroke with velA=0 and velB=1. Probability for this stroke is not relevant.
    • Select both strokes and create a linked set out of them by tapping a free link-slot.
    • Tap the closed hihat stroke to make it the first stroke in the linked set, it will turn yellow.

A random selection based on the probability of the first stroke in the linked set (the closed hihat in the above case) will now determine the velocity (velA or velB) with which the linked set is played, so either the open or the closed hihat will sound.

  • Thanks Marinus! As soon as my little boy is in bed i'll give it a go. Much appreciated

  • Yeah that worked mate nice one. out of curiosity what does the every (1) at (1) bit next to the link button do?

That sets the perodicity/offset for the linked set in units of pattern length. For example, "Every 4 at 4" will play the linked set once out of 4 at the 4th instance of the pattern. Or changing to "Except" by tapping the "Every" button we set the linked set to not play once out of 4 at the 4th instance. Tapping "Except" brings the linked set in "Trigger" mode via midi CC (to be configured in midi port settings under Settings view). Tap once more and we are back to "Every".

  • ok think i understand that mate :-) its one hell of a complicated app but i gotta say ive programmed one of the best drum tracks ive ever done in it this weekend

  • sorry mate another question, i can start a new thread for it if you want? when exporting to multi track out and importing to cubasis or auria pro my tracks are all way to hot and are clipping, if i use the nomalise option its much better but they seem way too quiet in comparison to other drum apps i might export in. am i missing something or do i just need to use nomalise and then deal with it in the relevant daw?

Can we import our own kits via sandbox?
What size and format must they be?

Any new IAP coming? Looking for more LOFI or ELECTRONIC

  • I'm guessing importing your own kit would be very complicated due to all the left/right variations ect for each instrument.

I'd definitely be interested in more iaps being available, especially pre programmed patterns..

Hi, in few days we are about to release a DPP update that include, among other exciting things, user kit import/export to Audioshare and other cloud services.
Zip file containing only user samples and a small .dpk text file. No limitation of size.
Very easy import/export directly from the kit view.
And of course, that will allow DPP users to share their kits :)

New IAP packs will follow, later.

New IAP packs, including Jazz and Brazilian brushes, are planned for Q3 of this year.

If "normalize" is off, the actual master volume set in Kit view is used during rendering. You could reduce it manually to avoid clipping.

If "normalize" is on, the rendering level of all tracks together will be scaled to 80%. That is, the rendering procedure starts with a normalizing pass to determine the overall maximum level to scale with. However, if probabilities are involved, there's no actual guarantee for the resulting level, which is why the normalizing level is chosen a bit conservatively. You could indeed adjust levels in your daw of choice.

  • Ok thanks mate I figured out the master volume bit in the end and I've got it sounding spot on now :-)
