TC Data anyone?

Is anyone using TC Data?
And if so - what with?
I'm about to delve more deeply into this amazing app, and wondered how others are using it.

I've had it a while, when I use it I get it to drive synths like Nave, and add Thumbjam into the mix for drums. I've got a custom patch I use for instant 'obtuse Frank Zappa' orchestral tracks.

    I use TC-Data daily
Search this forum via google "audiobus tc-data" for good info.

This thread includes an example patch I created a couple years ago somewhere in it.

That's the one! Love that patch, I've made a couple of tweaked versions too - thanks again for that!

  • Thanks for that Moderndaycompiler.
You seem to be well versed with TC Data.
I WISH there were more vids on how people like yourself are using it.

it's the most versatile and probably the conceptionally best controller surface around.
For a simple fact: you can learn it by building up associations between data and image in a fairly small amount of time (given the depth and complexity it provides).

Start with simple things like a grid and some circle/distance movements controlling just a couple of simple parameters, one after the other.
My personal favourite is the 'fake jog dial', a circle that increases it's intensity with subsequent turns of the finger.
That way a full filter sweep may take 3 to 5 rotations, resulting in very detailed values, but also can take a lot of accelleration for a fast sweep.
The intensity plus angle mark immediately tells in which position the dial currently is.
The (simultaneous) movement that drives the circle's diameter may control a 2nd parameter (like resonance).
Adding a thumb tap/movement's angular motion could increase filter overdrive or envelope's attack/decay whatever.

So with 2 fingers you control 3 parameters at once, use of both hands gives you 6.
And that didn't even include time, which this thing can also turn into control action.
Physical dials are totally boring imho. ;)

  • Update brings Audiobus midi support great !
