D'oh - Thx @echoopera - updated Post link.
Nice write up. One thing: The last sentence is incomplete in the App Store section.
Thanks, updated. Looks like I picked a hell of a week to give up Editing![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smiley.png)
Isn't it always like that, Mr. Murphy and his laws leave no change unoptimized.![>:) >:)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/naughty.png)
Holy shit! Know the biggest thing I took from the article? Ambisonics/b-format. Oh...hell...yeah.
Good read.
Do we think AudioShare is still going to be central, or will the new Files app make it less so?
yes, ambisonics is intriguing. and the homepods making mischief in that space.
Thx everyone, hopefully we can quell some of the forthcoming mass hysteria
- just added in a few sections: 1)AvAudioEngine - 2)Manual Rendering. 3)AirPlay 2 Support. 4)Deprecated Features. 5)Links to Official Apple statements on iOS 11 Audio & Related Features.
@bleep I think AudioShare will at minimum be useful for its trimming and conversions. I think just recently the dev was asking about any new file types he should consider for Conversion - might be cool for the ambisonic types.
Found this little nugget today in the documentation:![](https://forum.audiob.us/uploads/editor/tq/0bmap36fqjnl.png)
I'll be updating the post until '11 is out, and will update here when I do.
This guy, who does extensive iOS and Mac reviews, has a detailed rundown on the Files app as it currently exists (as of two days ago). Things could change, but so far this is what we know about it...

If at some point I can just load a borderlands wav in egoist and vice versa etc, happy me. Not like i actually want to use touch screen to manage files. Keyboard, mouse, multiple monitors etc. are much better at it.
He should have shown how you can long press an image on a web page and drag it right into the Files app, or the Photos app. Very early days
I don't know. It looks pretty useful to me. We already knew it wasn't the equivalent of a full file system / Finder. But it does facilitate moving files between apps.
It is a useful feature. What I don't not 'get' are user like the one in the linked video who don't even bother to do proper research before doing their videos...
It takes developers a few lines to make their apps 'iTunes Documents' available to the Files.app under iOS11.
And from what I know the latest iOS beta shows all 'FileProviders' in the sidebar.
My last remaining 'wish' for the Files.app is to have full access to standard Mass-Storage devices attached via the CCK or the Lightning SD-Card reader. Would be a smooth way to transfer recorded Audio from my Zoom H1 without having to use the laptop...
Well that's a let down. Hopefully Files is changed before final release, but as was said, typically the beta stage is the "this is pretty much what you're gonna get" stage.
This video is like trying to enter a car via its exhaust and claiming the car sucks because you failed to enter it.
If you look a bit further you'll notice some useful things called doors.
I don't often laugh while on internet forums, but this was hilarious![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Yes - all are shown. I know the Transmit app already works in this manner.
I'd just say it's just clickbait, or he's not done any research. 3rd party apps have to update for the feature to work - Transmit has this feature, you can grab anything from iCloud and drag it into Transmit's folder, which appears in the "On My iPad" menu (or drag from Transmit to iCloud Drive etc). the Files app now appears on the document picker (it didn't in Beta 1).
Here's an example workflow - you are using an app, you want to import a sample. So you swipe up from bottom of the screen - long press the app you want to open from, drag the app icon up, it opens split screen - then you can drag files back and forth (presuming they've both got the features implemented). Then, when you eventually want to minimize you can do so with both apps in their split screen orientation, then restore them to the same state. Having access to the taskbar within apps is really useful because when you want to open a new app, you don't have to lose sight of the app you've been working in. ANother example: open Aum + any app so you can adjust routings in AUM, while toggling MIDI settings in the app without going back and forth.
Hehe - @brambos - I know you've chimed in on the AuV3 GUI sizing stuff - any thoughts on the new setup?
Hehe, his point of view (like many ambitious/desperate youtubers) seems slanted towards just creating chatter in his comments section. He reminds me of the annoying guy at work.

So can this be used, let's say, for copying Blocs Wave projects and packs to Dropbox?
Random thought - with screen record, if you're trying to figure out a glitch you're having, just start a screen record (with you optionally talking about the issue) then upload - then you can get help for those issues tough to type/describe.
If it records music apps properly then yes, this could be good! Some of the demos on youtube though explained how with some games only the sound fx recorded and not the music. It could be hit or miss...?
The thing is; this is not going to offer you the features as a MacOS finder. It's not supposed to offer you the traditional files and folders paradigm. So anyone looking for that will end up disappointed. It looks like you won't be able to go around creating folders willy nilly like on a Mac or a PC. Which is logical, because that would be completely at odds with the UX design philosophy of iOS which is trying to keep that shizzle away from the user.
Based on Apple's demo videos, what it can do is easily move files between apps and your various cloud-storage services. Beside iCloud Drive, there is no external file storage in the mental model of iOS. There are just apps; and apps own your files. Once you accept that notion, the Files app suddenly makes sense.
One example of what should be hypothetically possible is let a wave editor open a sound file inside Auria's own file system, edit it and save it right there. Next, you can drag the file out of Auria's domain and store it inside Cubasis, or in Dropbox, etc. (note: this is based on my understanding of what Apple demonstrated at WWDF).
Let's hope developers embrace it - many stil haven't implemented iCloud Drive / Universal file dialogue yet (Looking at YOU! - KORG GADGET
)
If it's that simple to implement I really hope every app does it. I'm sure Apple is pushing for this too, to harmonise file manegement on iOS.
It sounds like most apps that have basic iTunes file sharing should be able to dive in easily and impliment Files but ones that write their own meta data on import or recording (like Blocs) may not have as easy a time of it.
So far as I can tell it only records the microphone (Can toggle on/off).
Yes, though currently only the iWork apps appear there, and Transmit (there may be others, those are only ones I'm aware).
From what I've heard iOS11 beta 2 added the option to show all flle-providers in the side pane too which would mean AudioShare should be 'visible' too in addition to Google Drive and DropBox...
I wrote earlier...
when you eventually want to _minimize you can do so with both apps in their split screen orientation, then restore them to the same state.
I think this feature is called persistent spaces. So you can have multiple split screen spaces, each can be restored/minimized from the Control Center. This saves much time over having to set up split screens each time.
