Latency when recording with AbletonLink

Ok, not exactly and AB question...

I have AUM hosting 3 audio samples(FilePlayer Node), Korg Gadget, and Launchpad, all synced via AbletonLink. Everything sounds perfect until I activate recording. When I hit record, my drums (in Launchpad) are very slightly off-sync from the samples played in FilePlayer.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?

So when you just tap play in AUM it runs in sync, but when tapping rec in AUM, Launchpad goes off sync? AUM doesn't send any different clock when playing compared to recording, so either the connection to recording is a coincidence, or Launchpad changes behavior when it sees the host is recording. Make sure you stop and rewind before recording. You might also need to enter external apps (Launchpad) and rewind/reset the transport there as well.

  • @j_liljedahl , sometimes when playing with Elastic Drums inside AUM, I have a similar problem where sync seems to 'stutter' when the record button is pressed in AUM.

Are you going from stopped and rewinded state, or tapping REC while playing (to start recording at next bar)?

And a question to both of you: how many tracks are you recording when this happens?

  • Usually record while playing, and usually only recording one channel at a time.

Yup, it is from a rewinded state.
    I'm recording 5 tracks into a mixbus.

  • Thanks for the details. I'll look into it and see if I can reproduce it! It might be an issue in the specific apps that loose sync, but I want to make sure AUM isn't doing anything funny here :)

  • @j_liljedahl Thanks, man. Keep up the great work.
