Roland D50 now available as AU and VST plugin for Mac and Windows
Roland's classic D50 is now available as an AU and VST for Mac and Windows. I am excited about this but disappointed that it is only available as a monthly subscription through Roland Cloud. I really wish this was a one off price.

It would be worth it to me if they ported to iPad
The new one is full emulation of the hardware, the previous anthology one was sample-player.
So in short the 'Legendary Series' on RolandCloud are 're-creations/emulations' and the 'Anthology Series' are sample-players....
So yeah Roland, Bring on the iD-50 like yesterday![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Hells yes. Almost bought a hardware unit on CL the other day for a great price but space reality got the better of me. For these sorts of classic digital synths, while I'm sure the hardware in AD/DA converters, bit rates, processor speeds, etc had some effect on the sound, bring on the emulations/ports.
If these were all available on iOS, I'd be pretty happy to pay $10/mo for it, presuming I could start and stop it at any time.
The problem with roland plug outs is because the plugs are cpu hogs but the sound is great
Has anyone seen a software rent-to-own system? Where you subscribe for a while but there's also a point at which you meet the buy price and no longer need to subscribe?
I know most folks dislike subscription models with software but I can't help but think there's something there, it's just that no one has nailed it. Even if the rent-own-price was some reasonable percentage more than then buy outright price, I feel like it could be successful. Of course, this isn't related to Roland necessarily since they're offering 15-20 soft synths and the buy price would probably be very expensive but...
The benefit of the above to users obviously being lowering the risk/initial investment cost.
Yes, you can buy Serum this way f.e. (via Splice).
You pay 10 dollar per months until you "own" it.
You don't pay really more.
I'm not a fan of it but it can be useful for other people i think.
I used to use a D-50 back in the day, but I'm not paying $20 a month for the privilege of using one in 2017.
Nice. I don't desktop enough for that to be worth it but glad to know my random ideas work for one of the best synths on earth. :P Or at least I hope it's working for them and their customers.
This. Selling my D50 ranks #1 of the dumbest things I've ever done. I might pay $20 once for an iOS app, but certainly not $240 annually. I'll gladly use Sunrizer in the meantime.
Too little too late. Roland should have gotten ahead of the VST curve a decade or more ago but instead clung to the hardware ROMpler game allowing others to take the lead. Now they are trying regain relevance with toy versions of classics posing as "boutique chic" and this subscription hustle.
Roland is pissing a lot of folks off. With the sudden change of heart/attack against Rebirth and the ridiculous subscription plan they've turned me off as a customer. I still have quite a bit of Roland gear but haven't bought anything they've produced in the last 12 years other than iSound Canvas.
Another flaw other than is stupid monthly subscription fee is that the D50 plugin cannot load sysex and midi file data. This is pathetic considering the Korg Wavestation and M1 plugins can load and save sysex data.
