Lorentz vs Redshrike?
For users of both, let me know your thoughts as to how they differ, what the strengths of each are etc. I have to assume at this point that Lorentz will get the iceGear 2.0 treatment soon, but I'm wondering what it can offer that Redshrike doesn't. For instance, Redshrike has that FM section and the incredible useful "low" parameter in the filter section. I do love the Lorentz UI though, and I'll likely pick it up just to support iceGear for being an awesome dev.
As a side note, where can I learn more about the theory behind the resonator synthesis as applied in the iceGear synths? It makes sense to me in Laplace, but a cursory search didn't yield much info as to what exactly it is doing in the others.
Comments
Mersenne might be my favorite.
Thanks for the diagrams. Looks like with Lorentz you can put the resonator after the filter.
(Both Redshrike and Lorentz have an option to place resonator before or after filter)
The either Lorentz or Redshrike is a tough thing to call. As usual my answer is get em both, and let your working/creating self sort it out later. My software-nerd discerning self (who hangs out here on the forum) isn't the same guy that uses these 2 synths...the guy that uses em moves between them without necessarily being able to articulate why (ones Red? I bought after market presets for the other one? This one fits right now but I won't remember why in a weeks time?)
My overall take is: all these icegear synths are gems...
I own all the ice gear synths. Mainly because they sound just a bit different from each other. Lorentz is less "shrieky" than Redshrike. Can't really explain it. It's very hard to get the same results in both.
Lorentz actually is from the Juno family while redshrike is on its own
I found Lorrentz to be warmer, while Redshrike was more edgy and atmospheric.
I agree with every post.
So, OP, gotta just forego the cigs or coffee or some thing and get both.
IRONICALLY, I THINK LAPLACE is the BEST AND MOST UNIQUE!
Loreznt is just an ANALOG MONSTER WORKHORSE.
RED is more a tinker on the melodic jams and get a bank of custom presets to use in future.
DONT LEAVE OUT ARGON FOR SHITS AND GIGS as well as that BELL BASTARD MERSENE!
did this one go universal yet?
Lorentz vs Redshrike reminds me of how heavyweight boxing used to be, back in the day.
A rumble in the digital jungle.
Not yet, but hoping that Lorentz is next up.
I think mschenkel.it is referring to the Roland Juno synths. I remember someone comparing Lorentz to Junos back when Lorentz was originally released. It doesn't sound like a Juno to me. Maybe the architecture is similar.
Mersenne is my favorite too![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
So happy to have it on iPhone now that I just bought Laplace as a thank you to the dev. It's already growing on me, probably have to pick up Lorentz when it gets the 2.0 treatment, top apps all of 'em![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Isn't poison the closest to a Juno? Or maybe Sunriser?
You nailed it. Anyhow Lorentz is my go to synth when I want that kind of Juno sound. Sounds awesome gritty and warm. I hope it will went AUv3 too.
Where can I learn more about what the resonator does to the signal, theoretically? I've tried searching to no avail. Is there another, more common name for it?
Physical Modelling
Is Argon Synth 64-bit? I suspect it is not, as it hasn't been updated since 2015. Have been tempted to pick this up for my iPhone, but will pass it if dies in iOS 11.
It's not showing up in my compatibility warning list so I think it's good to go. The push button presets are a bit old school but it is a nice clean synth with those funky formant vocal sounds.
Apps can be 64bit all the way back to October 2014. Just like how Samplr is 64bit.
I'm quite exciting about Lorentz's impending update. Absolutely love that synth and only stopped using it because it didn't support State Saving.
When I've got some spare cash I'm definitely going to pick up Mersenne and Laplace to complete the set.
Checked on my iPhone install, Argon doesn't show up on the "will not work with future versions of iOS" list - it's good to go
