Remixlive 3.0 for iOS – Loops. Finger drumming. Patterns.

Hey all,

We're very proud today to announce the new major release of Remixlive for iOS, version 3.0, available now to download from the App Store.

Check out the new video we've put together for this occasion, featuring artist & performer Pedro Le Kraken:

Among the new features in this version is a finger drumming grid that opens new possibilities for live performance in the app, as well as pattern recording which allows to save the finger drumming patterns that you play, including different quantize settings to help with playing in time. Also, along with the overhaul of all the major views in the app, comes a brand new waveform zoom view, to edit your samples more comfortably and smoothly, both on iPad as well as iPhone.

We've already collected quite a lot of feedback from you guys on our topic for the beta of this version, and are already looking at implementing some of the suggested changes.

Cheers!
Alex @Mixvibes

Hi everyone and thanks for the feedback on the release

@RajahP we will look into that, Remixlive already supports AU/VST on desktop so we don't rule this out for iOS I guess. You mean to use Remixlive as an instrument within a host I assume?

@5pinlink. MIDI has been discussed before but not confirmed yet. We understand how important it is, but at the moment there are other improvements that are needed before that (especially import-related features).

@djjuniorpops We are working on it as we speak. Please bear with us!

@JohnnyGoodyear. Thanks for your support. Onwards and upwards!

    Cheers,
    Louis @Mixvibes

  • @5pinlink You're absolutely right, but you know software developers change their minds sometimes :)
What's more, we tend to be restrictive in what we say and avoid over-promising features. At the time the desktop version was initially released, it's true that MIDI was one of the differentiating features compared to mobile.

That said, the more we add features and release updates on mobile, the more we see the potential of making it a full-fledged app, so it's not impossible to see MIDI coming on iOS at one point, especially if that can makes people like you happy.

Sorry for the confusion, we should'n't have given you such a definitive answer.
    Louis @Mixvibes

  • Import from iOS apps, please ("Open In," Audioshare, document picker, anything).

Custom finger-drummed patterns puts you leaps and bounds above the Launchpad app and I was ready to pull the trigger on all your upgrades, but I hooked up my old computer and -- ugh -- moving files through iTunes is just a buzz kill. Will be eagerly awaiting an update.

  • Hi @bigcatrik we are working on an update focused on import at the moment, with at least document picker, so hopefully that should help making Remixlive more usable for you. Glad to see you like the new finger drumming feature :)

@5pinlink I guess those are two different experiences. The artist who performed in the video is used to real pads (Akai MPC) and to him Remixlive is a great companion since it can be used when/where the mpc cannot. That said, you also have a point there, so we will try to come back with a clearer answer as to the inclusion of MIDI in a forthcoming update :)

  • Hi everyone !

We are about to release a beta of Remixlive 3.1, adding some interesting improvements import-wise:

    • AudioShare compatibility
    • AudioCopy compatibility
    • iCloud drive/Document picker
    • Air drop support
    • Open in support
    • Option to add custom BPM when importing samples

Anyone fancy giving it a try over the weekend? I know this was a feature that many of you requested (with reasons). @djjuniorpops? @bigcatrik? @Audiojunkie? @slaq? @Korakios? If interested, just send us a message at [email protected] :)

    Cheers,

@Mixvibes Email sent! It really would be nice to start being able to use this app!

  • I've never beta tested on iOS. How does it work?

  • Hi @bigcatrik , iOS beta testing relies on the TestFlight app, from which the beta can be installed.

We just need to register your email address in our testing list and you will receive an invitation email from TestFlight/iTunes Connect. Then, install TestFlight and retrieve the invitation email on your device. The email contains a link that will open TestFlight and let you install our beta from there.

Feel free to reach at [email protected] if you have more questions :)

Doublespeak won't win friends. A simple yes or no shouldn't be so difficult.

  • edited July 2017

Hi @Zen210507. To be clearer it's definitely on our list, but several enhancements and features are ranked higher in terms of priority level. That said there are factors that could speed up the implementation, which is why my answer wasn't definitive:
    1. Receiving of a lot of requests about this feature specifically.
    2. Having the opportunity to create a well-crafted software-hardware integration in collaboration with a manufacturer.

I hope that it does not sound like "doublespeak" now :)

    Cheers,
    Louis @Mixvibes

  • I know some indie dev for the second that could be interested...

Hey Alex. Good stuff. This update certainly is going to send me back for a serious go etc. Thanks for your efforts.

  • @Mixvibes on thing I do notice, I have a device with IOS 11 beta on it and when you select import and select your source it open in the file app instead. So i guess that all developers who has this feature would go to support the file app on iOS 11.

  • Nice updates. I have always liked the app, and will now like it even more.

Ha! You are fast!! I just barely got around to checking the beta out. While I am still doing just initial testing, I must say that I am VERY pleased at how complete the import support options are!!! As a Linux user (who can't use iTunes), I really, really appreciate the full set of import/export options!! I am going to have to go play with the app now!!

    @djjuniorpops Hi,

Concerning iOS 11, yeah for the moment, the way apps use the document picker view to get iCloud drive, and other stuff is overrided by the files app, which is kind of weird.
Since it's on beta, I think it will be smoother on the real iOS 11 release.
Besides, I saw that you will be able to multi-select files instead of just one as it is for iCloud drive for example in iOS 10.
I'll work further to be able to handle multiple files on iOS 11 release

    Regards,

  • Ableton link but no midi.

  • Hi @tja ,

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed by this! MIDI compatibility is on our to-do list, but it isn't the next step for us, as we are focusing more on trying to have the best standalone app possible, before trying to expand it with additional hardware.

    Hope you understand.

    All the best,
    Alex @Mixvibes

  • Midi is also import to me,with the ability to midi map,
