Managing storage on lower GB devices
For all those with limited storage space on your device - I'm talking 32gb or less - how do you manage your storage when you want to free up space, but at the same time keep projects etc?
I don't have a PC, laptop or anything to send stuff to. I DO have a subscription for 50gb on the iCloud, 79p a month. This seems to be my best option for my low budget, unless anyone has better ideas?
I can see myself running out of space in the next few months, as I am a bit of a hoarder.
Does anyone make a project then immediately zip it to the iCloud?
I think unless I start zipping stuff to the cloud now, it's also gonna take a while to free up space! For example, compressing a large song on Cubasis seems to take quite a while. And it's boooring!
So, just a heads up, really, to see if there's any top tips for stashing stuff and freeing up space.
Is the iCloud really my best option for my limited budget?

Dropbox. $9.99/month, 1TB storage. Install that app, and use it.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Meantime, save up for a new device.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Same here
Yeah, 9.99 a month is a big leap from 79p!
Zipped files seem fairly small at least, it's just a bit laborious. I do have Dropbox, but not the subscription - I find it useful for passing files around.
My small budget has no signs of improving for a fair while![:# :#](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/grimace.png)
Awww. Yeah, when it comes to subscriptions, Dropbox is one of only a small handful I'm able to successfully keep track of.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
@DefRobot You're on the right track brother, it's down to creative use of cloud storage and choosing what are necessities vs. luxuries.
I have a 64GB Air 2 that app addiction & multiple simultaneous projects keeps drained to the 3GB mark most of the time. I use iCloud & Dropbox to keep samples I am not using on ice because Audio Share makes it relatively easy to quickly get them on/off the iPad with import. I use the Documents app to go through stuff on iCloud because it's eas to audition samples you wanna import, a feature I wish AudioShare would bring on.
Also for project backups an external drive like the iXpand has really helped keep a few GB always clear...
Going up to 200 GB in iCloud is $2.99, which might be all you need.
Thanks, it's looks like I might be on the right track then and if I do fill the cloud up, I can either let it rain a bit or increase the subscription.
I need money spare for those impulse app buys that keep popping up like little devils.
The ixpand looks interesting but it's still a cost thing. I'm so poor
I hear you, music has been my living one way or the other and when the tools of the trade are more attractive than anything else in life you get tapped out real quick, lol...
Check eBay & the big box computer stores for sales on stuff like the iXpand...the 16GB version can be had for very little dough and it holds quite a bit.
I've been using a 16gb iPad for a few years now and it's been less than ideal, but I'm comfortable removing apps and projects as needed so it's been fine. I find that learning which apps back themselves up helps a lot. I use GarageBand and Model 15 for the most part -- because GB is first-party, it will actually start uploading older tracks to the cloud as your storage dwindles. Seamless!
Model 15 takes up >200mb but it automatically uploads all your presets to iCloud, so it's easy to uninstall and reinstall as needed.
Edit: GarageBand isn't free with 16gb devices but it's still a lot cheaper than the other DAWs. So that helps too.
Google drive is an option, they start you off with 15 gigs for free, and if you have one than more gmail account Im pretty sure you can make it work and save to both, but I think Dropbox is integrated with more apps. Audioshare works with it though.
Office 365 home is pretty good value at £8 a month I think 1tb each for up to 5 family members and full versions of MS office programs and apps.
