Free AU App Alert - Plectrum

Plectrum by Luis Felipe Vieira Damiani
https://appsto.re/us/_fAXkb.i

Seems to be a simple plucked string Audio Unit instrument. Works great in Beatmaker 3 Beta and has a bit of a "classical guitar/lute" type of timbre. It's free. :)

  • Thanks for heads up. I only tested like 2mins with the default instrument over the iphone speaker, so cant comment on it much, but its nice to have this sort of small free plugins, and im sure ill find some use for it.

I wonder how this sounds with haaze and the resonator plugin. Need to test that out later

  • Ta, I may either be in a bad mood or this is the worst sounding thing I've experienced in a long time.

    Or both, jury is out.

You can't complain for free but I can.

    Grumps Out.

Not sure if I dig it but I love the app icon. Definitely worth the entrance fee for that! Interesting that it shows Apple's built in AUs when loaded in stand alone mode.

Just shows a blank screen when you load the apple ones but interesting that it appears to be a stand alone AU container. No idea how that's useful as it doesn't appear to connect with anything via IAA or AB as a stand alone app.

    +1

  • I get the feeling that the developer of this app is just testing out how creating AUV3's with Swift works :)

And fair play to their spirit of adventure if this is the case.

I tried to process it through a few effects to make it palatable with little joy but now consider it my life's mission to do so and mix it in without the resulting track inducing spontaneous vomiting and/or combustion.

  • Amazing. Plectrum has become the center of my workflow.

  • Not so bad :p

  • C'mon, it doesn't sound that bad.
Somewhat like a harpsichord through a fuzzbox.
    Remember, gift horses and all...
    Thanks developer!

  • I appreciate it. Alone i've got no use for it but used as a sort of souped up wave table and running it theough other fx i'm sure i'll get good stuff. Thanks @jwmmakerofmusic and dev

  • You guys are welcome. After playing with it for some time, this app does seem to be a bit thin on its own but works great when doubling parts in a track (whether doubling a synth lead or an acoustic guitar).

  • iOS 10 only

  • For a free AU you could do worse (he'll, you can spend $5 bucks and do worse, right ReMaster?).

I like the quacky, piezo on a nylon string classical tone it has that's useful for doubling up stuff lacking in transient attack as @jwmmakerofmusic points out.

It has some bugs (in AUM after saving a preset when you go back to it the settings aren't correct but the sound is) and it is one dimensional, but I say thanks to the dev and say keep making these 1 trick pony AU's. It could be your niche. Perhaps a tambourine AU next?
