Paul Stretch, what's wrong?

Is it me (likely) or is this experimental software buggered?

Irrespective of whether I try a full sing, or a second long sample, the program gets to 97.77 or even 99.88 and stops dead. So I can't select or render the audio file in question.

Any tips, (Paul)Stretchers?

  • What, 70 views and nobody knows anything. Oh dear, must be more complicated than I thought. :/

  • Is this on IOS? I have only used it in Audacity.

  • I've used (tried to) Paul Stretch in the past for an experimental music class. I remember having that problem and haven't used it in years. Still can't believe it has that issue. Are you on a PC or a Mac?

Not yet. I wish it was.

I have both, but in this case it was the PC version. Is the Mac version better?

Never tried it on a Mac since I don't own one, lol. Seemed to work better there when I tried it on the school's Macs in 2006/7ish. I had a feeling you tried it on the PC. :D

Okay, thanks. Will give that a go.

    Cool. Good luck mate. :)

  • Worked for me on my win7 pc last time I tried, can be a bit flaky though

Hmm, maybe the operating system is what makes the difference. :)

This was on Windows 7 64-bit. I wouldn't touch Windows 10 with someone else's barge pole.

  • haven't used this in years, just tried it (v2.2, Windows 7, 64-bit). same thing here, it gets to 97-99% and chokes. too bad. tried v2.1 and the same thing. could start trying other older versions, but i don't think i'm going to waste any more time with it.

@jwmmakerofmusic are you an educator out of interest?

  • i have an old PC running XP, maybe i'll try loading it up on that if i get some time. this has me curious now. if it does work, maybe i could render some tracks for you.

  • Working faultlessly for me on Windows 10, current version of Audacity.

Well, I was a student back then, lol, and am not an educator (yet). However, I try to be helpful whenever I can be if I am familiar with the software/app/hardware/etc in question. :)

You'll have to forgive my aspie brain here but ...

do you mean - 97.77 seconds of rendered audio?
or do you mean - 97.77 seconds of rendering time?
or do you mean - 97.77 times the length of the original sample?

because on OS X 10.11.6 there is no problem with any of these.

It occurs to me that you might mean 97.77% of the task but there is no task measurement like this on the Mac version in Audacity, only an elapsed time and remaining time for the task.

EDIT: The penny drops ... you probably mean the standalone version, which I have never used, because there is no Mac binary! In which case - you could use the version in Audacity ??

A very kind offer. But I think I'll try the Audacity route, rather than put you to trouble.

Yes, it was 99.77% of task.

I've used Audacity in the past, and had no idea it was incorporating PS tech. I'll grab an up to date version and give it a go. Thanks for the info.

    EDIT

Just tried the Audacity version out, and it works splendidly. So thanks again. :)
