Your first concern about no commercial use is valid.

The "concerning copyright" section is just saying that it's illegal to use (any) copyrighted material - which is true, and not related to their software at all. They're just covering themselves in case someone tried to come after them if you rip off music. No harm in that.

The rest is pretty standard. I think you'd find most software has similar, if not more extensive, disclaimers.

The no commercial use is a biggie unless you're like me and will never make a dime off your music.

  • "Non-commercial" in this context refers to selling the software itself, not the music you may create with the software.

No, I don't think so. It says you can only use the software for non-commercial purposes. I read that as if you use the software to make music you sell, you are in violation. You are linking the meaning to the following sentence regarding selling the software, but it stands alone.

  • I bet if the dev were contacted that the language simply just needs to be cleared up... or not, heh.

  • took a peek - its not very "sick" at all

Under "License Agreement" I think that is (clearly?) referring to the software and its license as its own "thing." Not the content you create by using it.

  • Humm ... my interest in the topic is minimal, so I won't debate it. ;)

  • Fun in a can-hardly-make-it-work way.

    it makes "music" FOR you.....
    that you then don't own!

... so I suppose it IS "sick"

I know..it was a joke but some seem to think it is of interest lol

  • I thought it was the best app description ever!

  • can't get any sounds out if it..?

    "License Grant:

MusicCheck grants to you a limited, [...] license to install and use the MusicCheck App solely for your own personal, non-commercial use."

You cannot sell the music you make with it.

    That´s quite clearly stated.

And with clicking on the button, you ACCEPT this!

Also, it warns you, that you may loose any music or data or any data on a "connected drive".

I will not install this :dizzy:

to me, this states simply that you can install the app for your own use, but you can't install it in your casino and charge people for playing with it. it doesn't say anywhere you can't sell the music you make with it. (nor does it explicitly state that you can).

  • Amazing. I jam out ideas in Music Check then run them through Plectrum; these two apps have replaced 99% of what I used before.

Think you better hop on the three app challenge thingie :)

  • As a musician i absolutely LOVE musical software which tells me the uses (and especially: the non-commercial) and the forbidden uses of their software. There is always a really small chance that a non-commercial piece i made will be used for "commercial purposes" in future.

Bang! Then this software owns everything you made. Great deal. Hey, and we all know that "commercial" can mean a lot of different things. For example advertising your musical skills - yes - this is clearly commercial.

Cool concept. I like it a very lot. But i will not use this software because it it not restrictive enough. If this software additionally forbids the production of a) dark wave b) psy and c) jazz, then (only then) i would be interested.

  • I will only be upset if it restricts you from using it in any known universe like old record contracts stated.
