Bought, primarily because I remember Tony talking about the "sequel" to midiSequencer back in 2015 or whenever, and I was always impressed by his support of products. Not sure if I have the sophistication to use it properly, but will certainly give it a go! Congrats on the release.

My feelings exactly! Hehehe!! Bought, and hope I can get it figured out!

  • So, Midi-Sequencer has the ability to transmit these, but Quantum doesn't?

No Quantum has the same capability to send, slightly more if you consider you can define a set of 16 NRPNs per sequence. Its the receiving thats new - so you can automate Quantum sequencer parameters using 14 bit values or specific sequences/parts.

OK, gotcha! Quite advanced!

  • Does Quantum have the ability to transpose and play a sequence, based on which midi key you are playing?

  • how do i prevent sequencer 2 from being reset by sequencer 1?

  • Bought, one thing I hope may come is the ability to use different AB3 lanes for different Quantum sequences is that on the cards? :)

As in midi controller in? Yes and there is a new button on the Devices/Input to ignore this transposing.
It won't transpose if you are recording.

Thats where complexity comes in - and something I need to write up on.... but lets start with the Setup panel.

Sync involves resetting sequences back to step 1.
There are at least three types of sync:
Master/Slave - so a Master sequence looping will reset Slaves.
Ableton Link has Phase (bar) & Beat sync, and has two settings (1st is starting a sequence, 2nd is during play).
You can link parts A->B->C->D or A->D->C->B->A etc or combinations therefore using the third button in the sequence transport section - first is play/pause, 2nd is stop, 3rd is blank (just play selected part) or > (play parts in order) or < (play parts in reverse order) or + (play all parts together).

If you go into Setup and turn these all to None, you can have independent sequences but will only really be in sync with each other if you start them from the Song play button. I'd start in that mode until you want some synchronisation.

  • Congrats - it has been a tough slog for you. All the options on this are making my head explode!

not tried, I got AB3 midi working quite awhile ago - will need to look at the documentation to see if that is supported.

thx - its been a years worth of development - parts in particular causing the most complexity. If I'd realised how difficult it was to write the manual for this I would have finished 6 months ago!

Cool, looks great and i'm looking forward to getting stuck in :)

  • I'm sure it's right in front of me, but I'm looking for a midi channel number out setting for each sequence.

Select a sequence so button is green then go up and hit the Ch button which shows midi channel. Double tap Ch button to show midi channels for all visible sequences

  • midi ch selection can also be done on the back panel of a sequencer, which you can get by clicking the asterisk button on the right... then double tap on “Ch”

  • Hmmm, double tapping not doing anything. I discovered I can change channel per step, which is a great feature, but all my poking around I can't get to a global setting.

  • try double tapping just to the right of “Ch”

How many sequences do you have? Double tapping works when there are more than one sequencer in the rack.
You do select midi channel per step so if you want all steps to have the same channel then link the faders with chain link button on top right side and move them to the midi channel of your choice.

hmm cant seem to enable link in the options

    Yes, it shows an "X"

Is this something that still has to be added? I'm obviously getting the same

  • From my post on the previous page:

Go to iOS settings app and enable Link there first

got love Apple, Quantum got rejected because it doesn't produce persistent audio ;) Had this several times before for midiSequencer though....

I've sent of my reply & resubmitted.

Good news is Apple are alot quicker at reviewing things now - I thought it would take up to a week, but they did this within 12 hours.

Shame IOS 11 is so crap though - its killed some important apps for me on my phone (M15, AUM etc although audiobus works well!) - I'm not updating my pro or air 2 yet....

M15 and AUM working on my Air 2 ios 11.0.2

I've been using midiSequencer almost 2 years, it is one of my favorites; nearly impossible not to get sucked into what you can do with it, it's so musical & I am SO much looking forward to Quantum, waiting patiently... thanks for all your hard work Tony, your apps have brought some wonderful music to life!

thx - would love to hear what people are doing with it and as an indie dev with a full time job would appreciate some feedback on iTunes or email. MidiSequencer is an accumulation of ideas - Quantum builds on that - for example a new purchaser of midiSequencer suggested the Elektron Analog four method of step mute every fourth loop - so thats on my list of things to add.

Hi Tony, I just got Quantum and I must say that I am impressed!
Just a bit disappointed that trig conditions ala Elektron are not available (being able to trigger a step every x cycle)
But thank you anyway for this release

Excellent! I am sure you already have a long list of future features, but trig conditions would be fantastic for me. Indeed you should read Elektron manual as it is quite powerful, but one of the simple trigger conditions is to trigger a step once every x cycles : it is different from probability, because it is giving you more control on the sequence
Thank you very much to be so responsive

will add it to my list :) Sounds like it lives as on the Step Options panel as a setting so you can set it per step.
I already have accent that makes every x step louder (where x is the time signature numerator on the sequence 2nd page), so this is similar logic but on loops not steps. I also keep count of loops for actions.....

You can do this if you have MidiFlow channels AB3 plug-in. It’s not, strictly speaking, the standard AB3 convention, but works. B)

oh yes I do, good idea, yeah essentially that's all that AB3 routing is doing anyway :)
