Generative DnB - Future Drummer + Trouble Maker
Wow - things have come on in terms of generative apps.
This minimal drum and bass track (made in a couple of hours this morning as an experiment) uses purely:
- 1 bar of drums programmed in Future Drummer
- a 1 bar pattern programmed in Trouble Maker
- me muting / unmuting drums in Future Drummer
(fed into and recorded in AUM)
The rest is generative mutations and fills that FD and TM are doing themselves.

Not that bad, we just need some vocals (samplr or Egoist) but i like generative stuff !
Yep - thanks. By no means a 'finished track' - but just interesting to see what can be achieved with the drums and bass so very simply in those two apps.
Am I right that the Trouble Maker sequencer now sends Midi Out - but only if you use it in AB3? (I better go get AB3!)
Interesting subject. Ive been trying out generative lately, all inside AB3 so very easy to recall. My recipe is Reclice and three Troublemakers (sometimes a viking or a jimmy synth instead of one of the brams) all fed with the midi arps from Addictive Pro. My results are mixed but the non drum stuff works well. It is a shame to use an amazing synth like AP to just do midi but its my best AB3 arp atm. Im also looking at my new purchase dotMelody to do the generative. Seems like AB3 has really openned this up for me.
DnB needs drops n risers no? Apart from this I liked it, like all your stuff.
Yep... it would need proper arrangement and additions.
I'm thinking I could output the midi into Gadget and then from there very easily choose the sections I liked, add other instruments etc. and shape the whole track.
But it would mean a nice alternative to having to programme loads of midi for the drums and bass. Would be more 'tweaking'.
Are the midi arps from Addictive Pro generative? Do morph, mutate, randomise?
Randomise, yes. afaik not so much morph and mutate, but the randomise is 'musical'/ useful. Its not as good as troublemaker and maybe fugue machine would be a better choice but its AB3 and has 4 arps. Can you imagine an app with multiple @brambos sequencers and a kind of drum sequencer with all those morph, mutate options? That would be sweet.
Good stuff @Matt_Fletcher_2000
Has a great vibe and potential
But... fail to see how troublemaker is generative
Please elaborate
Hi @Matt_Fletcher_2000 , I think it sounds really good for a base, to work on. I like the drums, maybe have to look at Future Drummer soon
Both standalone Ripplemaker and troublemaker sequencers can generate a random melody constrained within a scale you assign. The mutation setting randomly mutates the pattern longer it plays. So definitely generative.
In Troublemaker, you can also scroll through and choose different but related sequences as it's playing and the mutation settings stay the same.
This is the secret sauce on top of the mutations (which are already secret sauce-ish). I just wish there was a "return to original" button that was midi mappable. That way we could hit the variation a couple of times for some interest and then revert back when the tune calls for it. Maybe @brambos will consider it?
In any case, TM and RM sequencers are wonderfully musical.
THIS A THOUSAND TIME EFFENDI. May it please the God of Music to visit Mister @brambos in the night and nudge him thusly....
Sounds even better and more useful than the "Undo" button I've wished for!
Looking forward to getting nudged at night by this marble-skinned nude guy![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Buttons for "Return to Original" and "Previous Variation" for the TM/RM sequencer would be AMAZING. Those, plus visual indicator of currently playing step, are my most-wanted features.
And adding the sequencer to my other favorite @brambos synth, Phasemaker...
By the way... Thank you @Richtowns @gsm909 @Max23 @Love3quency @gonekrazy3000
Seeing as we're piling in on @brambos... have been wanting an undo button for that 'damn, I hit random once too many times and lost it' moments.
That's so cool, @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Nice sounds and grooves, I love it!
Thanks Luis - but I think your app is responsible for most of it!
By the way, when you have any time, I think there's still a bug with saving user grooves. It doesn't seem to save changes to drums 4 and 5 in 'full' mode. And it's generally quite irratic about whether it lets you save at all if all you are doing is making changes to drums 4 and 5.

Ok, thanks for the report, @Matt_Fletcher_2000 . Will be fixed ASAP
