Automating CC's

I too picked up midiSequencer for a bargain but other than midiSequencer is there another MIDI automation app that will automate CC's and not just notes?

Comments

  • Modstep, Infinite_Looper :)

  • plenty, but my favorites are TC-Data for free form and Oscilab for pattern based stuff.
In the latter it's not immediately obvious, but a feature in the midi section of a pattern.
You can assign up to 4 CCs to a single pattern, the values are generated as complex curves from processing basic waveforms.
The interface approach is genius, you can't draw this manually nor can you twist dials to come up with similiar results.

  • midiLFOS!!!

  • Awesome. I've got Modstep, TC-Data.

    midiLFOs looks great too.

I'm trying to automate TouchViz without a computer, but the controls are static CC values and the MIDI operation is very temperamental. Does anyone else have other ideas?

  • Different Drummer.

    +1.

KRFT can also automate CCs, if you're using or are interested in that environment.

  • Two of the best, if not the best:

    StepPolyArp
    http://dev.laurentcolson.com/steppolyarp.html
Gives you a few lanes to automate CCs (default lanes can be customized).

    ChordPolyPad
    http://dev.laurentcolson.com/chordpolypad.html
CCs can be assigned to either the X or Y axis for expressive playing.

  • Genome

    Infinite Looper

    Easiest to use by far

    Link to tutorial video?

    Sounds like an interesting play

How do you sequence CC with Genome?

See photos - I didn't get this from a video, though I assume one exists. The morph buttons are the triangular shapes. The first pic is the edit window for one of the morph buttons. The second pic shows A blue diamond shaped midi channel (I've clearly marked it for Troublemaker) among others. The blue triangular morph buttons (each representing a different CC) are clearly marked and are there to modify Troublemaker.

I guess I consider automation the same thing as sequencing automation for my uses.

I guess I must not have understood the thread.

I understand it more or less the same way, so I think you understand the thread correctly.

    Unless I don't understand either.

  • don't forget NRPN - not everything is 7 bit CC in the hardware world.
    Moog's M15 app controls can be 14bit using a trick CC(x)+CC(x+32)

  • Check out KnobLab one knob many parameters

    Speaking of midi

When do I get to buy or test the new MIDI SEQ?

Its the current midisequencer app, transcended: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/19728/midisequencer-on-sale-this-week-only-for-99c-all-iaps-now-free#latest

Nice patch, @ALB, did you upload into krft user templates?

Auria and Aum for automating (esp. with external controllers).

@ccs2 - Thanks for the nice comment. I wanted to somewhat duplicate how I apply Midi LFOs to Troublemaker , but using KRFT instead. The key thing is to animate the 10 different wave forms in Troublemaker, so that it cycles through them all while playing the sequence - it really gives it a great deal of life.

No, I didn't upload this yet into user templates. I confess that I had forgotten about the community sharing aspect of KRFT.

I see @ALB the ‘wave’ button on your krft scene would send cc10 (http://ruismaker.com/wp-content/uploads/tmsheet.pdf) then. How did you specifically configure it to cycle through? (thanks)

Here it is - you could use a random modulation instead of sine, if that's your thing (or anything else for modulator shape, I guess). You can also choose different values for time off and on.

  • Thx @ALB - will try. Greetings :)

    Enjoy - it will work.

  • Beatmaker 3, but not out yet
