  • looks pretty sweet. Released soon?

  • Uh, the feature list sounds good. Sean Costello Reverb....oh nice.

    Thanks, Stuart!

@Halftone - Coming out early fall/late summer. Just put the website online today- You're getting the scoop straight from Red Sky Lullaby!

@Cib - The reverb in this synth is so sweet. Sean Costello is a reverb genius (for those who don't know who he is, he's the guy behind the amazing sounding Valhalla Reverbs). Thanks to him, this app has one of the best Reverbs ever in an iOS app. We appreciate his contributions to open-source.

@ everyone - If you've emailed me about beta testing, we're still a month out. Thank you for your patience! The important thing is that we're making progress on the synth...

  • You had my interest at x/y pad... I am a simple man.

  • So, i doubt a chance for an iPhone version (or even macOS)?
Did i say that i love morphing OSC´s....well, i love them.

  • edited July 2017

    @Cib - thanks for asking.

macOS AU: Will be out this fall as well. And, also free. It actually works in Logic now....

The upcoming version of AudioKit will allow developers to make iOS and macOS plugins a little more easily than they can today. So, you may see many more apps come out for both iOS and macOS...

In the initial release, you can use it on your iPhone as an AU. We might make a standalone iPhone version as well. The code is open-source. So, someone might even beat us to it.

Great to hear. Call me interested for sure. Logic is my main DAW.
I really love to create f.e. patches on my mac and export and play them on my iPhone (or sometimes vice versa).
Thank's for your info here. Very promising.

Awesome! I actually make patches in Ableton on my mac and export it to the stand alone version. The ableton tech for Tycho (http://www.tychomusic.com/) is doing the same thing for the synth now (while on tour). So many amazing people are volunteering their time to make this the ultimate free & open source iPad music making app.

BTW, Here's an old video I made of the AudioKit Synth One in Ableton. This video is 6 months old. The synth sounds better now:

  • Thank's. I'm about 90% on mac but iOS is an old love too and crossplatform is the way to go for me anyway.
Great to hear so much people are involved and give their knowledge to the world.

  • Damn. Ipad only. Oh well. I'll just keep moving along

At least as AUv3 on iPhone.

  • edited July 2017

They'll be an iPhone AU version on launch. And maybe a standalone a month or two later when the mac version comes out. iPad users will just get a head start...

I got both, so I guess one device will get it first, and then the other. Not bad. Can't believe it'll be free. Got a Ko-fi link perchance?

  • "Can't believe it'll be free"

@jwmmakerofmusic - Right? Everyone is always trying to make a buck off of musicians. As a musician, I think it's time for a change. No ads, IAPs, or other things. It's going to be completely free. We may eventually implement a tip system. But, it's important to me that this first version(s) be free of any kind of ask for money.

Luckily, big name artists have been helping and donating their time, simply because the app is going to be free. If we were charging, this would have been an incredibly expensive synth to make. i.e. I don't think Kanye West's synth guru would be designing sounds and helping to design features for free if we were charging $9.99, etc. The best thing about this synth isn't that it's free. The best thing about it is the way it sounds and how easy it is to quickly make sounds.

Your "As a musician, I think it's time for a change" attitude is absolutely refreshing to me and, ironically, makes me want to actually tip you money even more. :D Hey, maybe I can volunteer some time with beta testing once it hits that stage. Cheers.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic - Thank you! Eventually, I do want to make music apps for a living. So, eventually, I'll probably release some commercial apps (reasonably priced to cover expenses). But, this first app will always be free. And, hopefully, I'll be able to release more free apps here and there.

  • Wow this is going to be a great fall.

Because of these comments, we're going to try to make it stand-alone for the iPhone as well on release.

    Thanks everyone!

    Any time estimate? ;-)

several weeks away yet .... late summer, early fall

Any reason you don't support Windows, planned in the future ?

Thanks for asking. AudioKit is specialized and focused on Apple Platform development. This focus allows us to concentrate on making the tools better. We're all volunteers and don't receive any money. Supporting Windows and/or Android as well would be too much of a task. (I don't even own a Windows machine).

Plus, there's already so many tools for Windows VST developers: Flowstone/SynthMaker, SynthEdit, etc. We're filling in the gap on making easy-to-use music / fx development tools for iOS, macOS, and watchOS.

So i assume Audiokit is of a modular nature and requires zero coding to complete a synth ? it can be used to create synths by wiring up blocks ? that would be why you are comparing to Synthmaker and Synthedit ?

Ahh. Sorry for the confusion. It is all code. I've made many synths with SynthMaker & SynthEdit and making synths with Swift and Xcode is almost easier (for me anyways). Once you get to a certain level of complexity, it's easier to write simple Swift code and use Xcode for layouts. The other libraries you mentioned require very complex code in comparison. AudioKit has pre-built components (Reverbs, Efx, Filters, etc) that can be easily added to apps.

We do have open-source examples of modular components:
    http://discchord.com/blog/2016/5/13/nodality-for-audiokit.html

And, the "Ops" Modular App was written with AudioKit:

Aaah so you would be in competition with some well respected frameworks then, good luck with it.

Thank you. Those other libraries you mentioned are great. We're not trying to compete. Beefing up our professional-level sound tools and bringing iOS & macOS plugins to the table will empower developers to make higher quality audio apps without the steep learning curve of other frameworks...

  • @5pinlink said:
If that is the case this is very exciting stuff ;)

Here's some more info about our AudioKit framework from the creator of AudioBus himself, Michael Tyson:

It's kind words from people like him and all the wonderful people that post here that keep us going-
    Thanks again!

  • Wow, great to be mentioned along with those big name peeps
