Saturation AUs?

So today I'm in the market for saturation AUs (preferably tape saturation models). I got a reply from the devs behind Dada Life's Sausage Fattener, and they won't be porting it over to iOS anytime in the near future (which really sucks). So, how to get the "sausage" effect? I read in various places that there's a musical bell curve boost around 5kHz (DDMF 6144), "hotdog" styled compression (Korvpressor), and saturation (?????) ae the keys to getting this effect.

I got Saffron Saturator today via the Flora Audo Effects Bouquet 1, so there's that. I tried Google and came up empty. Can you fine folks suggest other good ones in AU format? I'm not expecting as high quality as Saturn in Auria, but hopefully something really good is out there that can suit my needs well. Thank you all for your time. :)

  • Aum's saturator?

  • I kinda like the tape-saturation in Cubasis channelstrip.

Sausage fattener is compressor + limiter + eq(or low shelf) in one knob afaik. BM3 has a nice saturation knob on the sampler, if thats any good for you. Imo compress and limit the hell out of it, add some eq for low end(or just low shelf) and add grind distortion AU for some extra grit. Squashit might work, but i would try PressIt -> grind -> some eq(you could try putting grind before compressor to get a different sound). You could also just try using rough rider instead of pressit, which seems like its better quality, but pressit seems better suited for this. Or you could try instead of using an eq, use grind to filter out high end, turn the mix knob so that you can still hear the original tone under it, and just boost the bass like that, adding some grit to the low end, while keeping the higher frequencies untouched. Oh yea and try using haaze at the end of the chain with widened highs and mids for little extra magic

  • Audio Damage Grind, used sparingly though

Distortion does add compression, but in order to compress enough to get to same levels as sausage fattener, you need to add so much distortion that its most likely way too distorted. So grind doesent really work for this alone.

  • What about Master Record by Igor Vasiliev?

  • Amazing noise limiter

Warm Distortion, RoughRider2, Grind,DC-9 Overdrive, Saturator, squashit, Shaper and The au eq like remaster zmors goose fuxeq...

  • So many good choices, but if you do end up in Auria, don't forget PSP Microwarmer. Possibly the most straightforward solution within AP. Just sayi'n.
