RESOLVED Sort of.....Reslice sounding robotic in cubasis

I pulled the trigger and got reslice....working fine standalone, but when hosting in Cubasis the sound is robotic....
What am I doing wrong ?

  • Hmm. I never had any trouble with any of the hosts myself. Mainly use in AUM but I have spent a bit of time with it in Modstep, Cubasis and Auria. I've noticed that if you send ReSlice a 24 bit sample, chop it up and export, the new slices are 16 bits. Can that kind of thing make trouble in a Cubasis project?
If you're just getting started and there's not much to lose, can always try the old delete/reinstall... Good luck Mister P, when you're up and running this sorry episode will be forgotten, he tapped, trepidantly

Hmm...file is 16 bit 44k....Cubasis project set to the same...

If I load it as IAA on audio track it is fine, if loaded as AU on midi track then I get the robotic voice.

Ok I found it.....I am using an amplifi tt from line 6.....seems it wants to be 48khz audio when connected via USB....at least AUM won't let me set audio to 44.1 when connected to it
If I connect via Bluetooth I get 44.1......and with the device at 44.1 it plays fine in Cubasis.

Thanks @tomato_juice for putting me on the right track :)

  • Phew. Strange that the Line 6 isn't more flexible hardwired... Anyway, I'm happy you found a workaround :)

Yeah it is strange, but also strange is that all other audio sounds fine, it is only reslice that is affected. Oh well...never mind. :)

Side note: I have this, have tinkered some, always enjoyed it, but almost been intimidated by wow this might really be a thing and have avoided it mostly since (odd, human nature tic I am afflicted with some times)....what's your take so far?

I am in a similar position with it....I have only scratched the surface....my usual trick of just pressing buttons and seeing what happens didn't give any decent results..I am going to stick with it and give it some time though...I think once mastered it could become one of those tools I wonder what I did without it.

I like ReSlice, my only concern is it tends to dominate a track pretty easily, so needs to be handled with care.

It's that polyrhythmic random arp... Go on, press it! Press the dice. Again! What, you're not using any of these fine effects here? Yes, a gentle touch. I hardly touch that arp in fact. For what it's worth, I'm still mucking about in the weeds. So many unexplored ways to use it. For conventional 'background' drums, you can sample 16 (or however many) hits of an acoustic kit, set up an AU track and get a 4 (or however many) bar rhythm going in a DAW, maybe add a short delay and a little reverb in the fx section, tweak your pans and your levels... I waste so much time making tiny little changes and in ReSlice it's just so immediate. When it's full of samples it's just so versatile and useable and everything's accessible AU. So easy to switch kits mid-flow, or run another instance to add that hit from that preset etc. I don't often get on well with drum apps but this seems to have me covered. Side note: I love chilli sauce ;)

  • My main use will be for vocal samples, chopping/tuning etc...

I have a circuit which has 4 x sampler tracks which can do a thing called sample flip where you can change which sample is used per step in the sequencer...
I figured I could also load 4 x reslice to get the same thing in ModStep/Cubasis for when I'm building sample packs for the circuit.

Ok, got ya. Kind of. I just started watching a YouTube video explaining sample flip and immediately became confused. The only limits are those we give ourselves! Also cpu, gravity, time et cetera
