Patterning drum kit

Hi all!
Does anyone know of a good Patterning drum kit from the Cloud kits suitable for reggae (with rim click/cross stick sound)?
Thanks

  • since the cloud update there have been quite a lot of acoustic drum kits made available, but I think very few if non with a rim click cross stick). Do you have a sound example of what you are looking for? Sounds like an interesting project for a monday evening.

@erikb1971 Yes I have been searching without any luck. I don't have any sound sample, but I'm looking for a "regular" cross stick sound. This is just a random video I found when searching for "drum stick drum".

  • never knew there was a difference between a rimshot and a cross stick!
Is there any of the kits i made that would in your case benefit from adding a crosstick?

@erikb1971 Erik take this one brother, I know for a lot of the acoustic kits I made it was either cross stick, rimshot or toms that got sacrificed, with just 8 instrument slots it gets hard to include everything.

Sometimes I like putting 2 kicks or 2 snares in a kit for variety and flexibility so that's another way some of the other parts of the kit like cross stick, etc. I have tons of crosssticks, rimshots, timbale so when I get some time I'll try to put together a Cloud Kit using some.

Look forward to that, yes we usually need BD and SD, but I love sticks and rims....

Yes I like the "Wendel Jr. Kit" and the "Alesis HR-16 Kit".

  • working the sample library now.. lets see what i can come up with...
BD, stick, snare, hihat open, hihat closed, ride, crash, tom?
Life always comes down to making it work with one less than you'd like, right?

Yes I like the "Wendel Jr. Kit" and the "Alesis HR-16 Kit".

When I put together the Wendel kit I tried to use the samples that are for that device, and if you research it a bit, it's rarity means not many of the samples are out there. I wish I could find the crossstick from it because it did have one...and a clap that was off a Steely Dan session where Roger Nichols had the session players group round a U-87 and do some claps...but they're impossible to find.

I thought the Alesis kit I put up had a crossstick, I will go through some of my files to see if any HR-16 are in there or a SR-16 which is usually really close.

@erikb1971 Cool kits brother, I dig the dubby flavors. I started on drums in 6th grade playing snare drum and then guitar, bass, etc later. So growing up with drums I had it hammered into me that a "rimshot" was a full stroke with the rim simultaneously and "cross-stick" was laying a stick down across the head and hitting the rim that way, very jazz, bossa nova, etc. sounding.

It's easy to get confused and I still see samples labled "rim click" that are cross-stick and regular loud velocity center head drum strokes called "rimshot". I always listen to double check as some naming conventions are screwy.

Thanks again for the CloudKit additions brother...

  • @JRSIV thank you creating those great kits for us to use and enjoy

It's a brilliant community feature. I hope to be able to give back at some point.
