Pulse Code's Boom808 and Boom909 updated with AB3 and 64Bit

I honestly thought Roland was gonna kick in the door on these guys (re: Propellerheads Rebirth) and they'd abandoned development, but they are still going strong. Yay!.

  • They don't have any way to sync to anything else

  • They sound very good

  • what he said

  • Welp, that finally got me off the fence in regards to purchasing them. Can't believe they're $0.99 per app. Weren't they $2.99 or so before?

  • Do you guys think that this sounds better than FunkBox? I've never done any comparison between them? I like FunkBox and I have 808 but there doesn't seem to be much midi functionality with 808. Just wondering?

    It's featuring Wist...
but fewer and fewer apps support it, I guess

  • It can sync to an external MIDI clock. As a quick test, I set up FunkBox and Boom 808, turned on MIDI clock out in Funkbox and set Boom 808 to external clock. I could change the speed in FunkBox and Boom 808 synced fine to it.

As for sound - Funkbox is fine, but you don't have as many controls to shape the sounds. You can only control velocity in Funkbox. There are kits with variations, and you can customize your own, but you can't tweak knobs like you would on a real machine. Boom 808 does a pretty good job of this. Sounds pretty good to me - I always liked it.

  • Ok. Makes sense. You actually can change the pitch and length of samples in FunkBox. It's the kit edit page. But I think I'll play with 808 a bit and see how it feels? Sweet.
