I haven't heard the word yuppie in a long time
usually when I see people talking about hipsters it's when they are referring to record collectors, but the people calling them hipsters usually don't collect records or even know what the record collectors are doing so I never really felt like I understood it.
Every generation thinks they invented cool. Eventually we grow up, shut our mouths and open our ears. Then we learn. I particularly like it when an artiste dismissed as an old fart or no longer relevant, returns with music that engages and impresses millions, of all ages. The late great David Bowie was a master at that, right to the end.

Hipster = A person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.
Hipsters nowadays try to dress like the 30s and 40s jazz scene culture wearing big long beards, skinny jeans, glasses and lots of tattoos. So many hipsters looking all the same i start to wonder how they try to avoid mainstream with millions of them all over the world, lol.

Good question. It's what the dictionary says, but maybe it's better described as a dressing hype for mainstream people trying to be more mainstream then the normal mainstreamers.
