Beatmaker 3, Scene Mode, Copy/Duplicate Patterns/Scenes....???????

When I duplicate a scene, the edits applied to the duplicate are applied to the original. So going back to the original is pointless. Turns out, a Scene is comprised of a Pattern that can be switched. So the question is, How can I Duplicate a scene with its current Pattern and edit it without affecting other Scene/Patterns? So for example I have Scene 1/Pattern 1. I want a copy of that but the copy to be Scene 2/Pattern 2. (new names, same data to build off of) Otherwise the flow has to stop, make a new Scene/Pattern, reprogram the beat you want to build off off, start back up again) and a major roadblock for using this thing live has been hit. Thanks!

  • No sooner did I ask the question did I figure it out.....
    1. Make a new scene
    2. make a duplicate of the pattern from the Patterns list on the left
    3. Drag the dupe into the newly created Scene column

Hope this helps anyone else out.

That should only happen when you make a 'Repeat' and not a 'Duplicate'. Are you sure you are hitting Duplicate and not Repeat?

  • @AudioGus only Duplicate is available in Scene page , Repeat only seems available in Song , as I can see

Is duplicate in Scene behaving differently to duplicate in Song ?

@dbeamgeek you seem to be right , although as you realised you arent also editing the original so much as it's the same pattern in both Scenes . I dont think your workaround solves the original wish for quick independent copies if we have to repeat process for all Sequencer tracks . When the bugs are fixed this should be a feature request , whatever it is to be called .

  • On the Scene page there is no Repeat. I did see that in the manual though, haven't found it yet so Im positive Im not pressing Repeat ^__^. As it turns out there are 2 Duplicate functions. One duplicates the Scene AND Pattern. But if you long press a Pattern under a Scene you get a list of Patterns on the left. Press on one of the Pattern's menus (3 dots) and an option to Duplicate appears. THIS Duplicate allows a copy of a Pattern that can be dragged into a new Scene and edited without affecting the source Pattern it was duplicated from.

  • @Wally You're not kidding when you say " I dont think your workaround solves the original wish for quick independent copies" HAahAH And is it just me or is there no Repeat/Latch function for Audio Samples recorded to pads?

  • Just tested in Song mode , @AudioGus is correct that changes to Repeated Patterns affect all & Duplicate creates a newly named independent version to which changes can be made without affecting others ...
so to answer my above question .. yes Duplicate in Song mode behaves differently to Duplicate in Scenes mode . Song Repeat= Scene Duplicate .

  • @dbeamgeek given the whole nature of Scene mode is to Loop , unlike Songmode there is no reason for Repeat , so we should request a true Duplicate function .

re: Latch , there is a Default pad trigger mode option in Settings for Hold / One Shot ,
although wasnt this setting per pad in BM2 ?

  • Right! I'd love to be able to improvise live with this. Still waiting for Roland to create an SP-808 app. The Propellerhead Reason app (RIP) has always nailed this kind of feature from it's birth in the 90s. Instead of duplicate, a basic copy and paste feature would help. Maybe you don't want what you're about to program to be the next Scene. Copy, Paste to Scene (insert number).

About that Latch...Ive got that set to hold, still behaves in a press on, play / let go, stop manner. I see in the edit mode a lot of options and it seems no combination lands a press to play / press again to stop behavior. Thanks for looking into this.
