i dont get why people love nanostudio so much please inform me. I just used it for the synth what the hell was I missing lol

I used Nanostudio a lot when it first came out but I found the workflow clunky. I ended up using Caustic a lot because the ability to work without interrupting my flow was there in a way it wasn't with NS. I feel that FLMS also has that flow that works for me.

This is kind of cool to read. I think a pretty huge chunk of NS users forgive its modern shortcomings precisely because they find the workflow to be smooth. I'd be interested to hear about your workflow and/or what doesn't work for you in NS.

Well. I'm expecting Nanostudio2 to be absolute garbage. That way if it's not I'll be content.

    HAHA.
Me too. I'm too new and missed this the first time around, and I'm already in deep with Modstep (and every other possible one that I look at almost never). So I don't need it but will probably buy instantly JUST IN CASE IT'S THE BEST EVER.

    And provided it's on sale.

Same here, and also what is so good in FLMS, I always thought it just does not work - while the desktop version is awesome.

Well, I haven't used NS in a while but one thing that stands out to me is the Eden synth. As wonderful as it is I had no fun scrolling up and down again and again to edit a synth patch. Also, navigation within the app always seemed clunky to me. In Caustic or in FLSM a couple of taps takes me anywhere. I never found the NS sequencer wonderful either but it's hard for me to describe since I haven't used NS in quite a while. To honestly answer your question I would have to download NS to be reminded of the things about it that didn't work for me. There are a number of apps that people love that I don't get. It's probably just me. Off the top of my head, Animoog, Loopy and Thumbjam do nothing for me. To each his/her own I guess. I am having fun with BM3 and haven't seen some of the issues others are mentioning. BTW @syrupcore I remember you being quite active on the NS forum when I was using it. I learned some stuff from your posts. B)

  • Yeah nanostudio 1 lost me with its gratuitous scrolling, as great as it sounded. i mean even with digital tools i consider each app as an instrument that I'm going to be "playing" and things like gratuitous scrolling, while they may seem small, really hinder my musical flow. That being said, definitely interested to see how nanostudio 2 has been redesigned.

  • Can't wait for the 2025 release date!

Out of interest, were you using Nanostudio on an iPad or iPhone?

I can imagine the scrolling being more of an issue if using iPhone.

The iPad version for me is just so smooth. The workflow I find is one of it's strongest points. There's really only 4 sections of the Synth area. XYpads, 2nd Keyboard, Synth Parameters, PatchBay. So just 3 taps gets you to any page. Or if you know the shortcut, a quick swipe = top to bottom.

Access any synth or TRG from the sequencer with a double tap.

Not suggesting anybody is wrong to say the workflow doesn't work for them, but as Syrupcore said, it's interesting to read polar opinions.

    are they beta testing?

not that I know of. I posted this question in another forum - but why all the hype about NS2 lately?? Like people think it might be dropping soon? I am thinking we'll be lucky to get NS2 before xmas. As far as I know (from reading the blip forums) he's still programming it. Of course, if it comes earlier I won't complain!

    Hiya @Halftone .

Yeah I think NS2 likely has some way to go yet.

I'll be happy to unwrap it at Xmas.

  • Interesting indeed. Cheers @anickt.

Again no samples just pure synth 16+ tracks and a hell lot of FX (and still just 40% of CPU on iPhone 6 !!!)"

    Whennn?

    Circa ;-)

not my work, just copied this from the NS forum. Thought it was rad that it is made only with the inbuilt synths!!

Are there reasons to not buy and use Nanostudio now?
I mean, what's the problem with the old version?

Not 64bit. And it won't be upgraded either. So the app is dead in ios11. The dev has stated he is letting ns1 die so as to focus on ns2.

Technically the dev let it die years ago, no updates in 3 years, last one was in 2014? I agree that Eden is a great synth, but overall the app feels kinda ancient to me now. Just never became my DAW of choice, not even after buying the extra 16 tracks. I think it would have been better if Eden had a better patch browser and some audio tracks. I would have settled for a decent patch browser actually, I hope there's one in NS2.

  • Just release it already!

Work out the bugs later. :p

  • Respect the developer and the original product sufficiently that I am very much looking forward to seeing what the same head does with an update. I hope the baby is retained and the bathwater refreshed.

  • If NanoStudio 2 just would be the same as version 1 plus audio tracks and AUv3 support, it would be already my DAW of choice on iOS.
I'm sure i can handle tons of stuff on my iPhone 6S with it since it will be optimized as hell.
Saving FX chains, mixer chains, creating multi-instruments etc. is the stuff i like.
Of course i think i will miss a lot things no iOS DAW won't offer me for the next years maybe but i have to learn to make the best out of the things i have (that is how i started with just a smartphone and a few apps).
But i still dream of an iOS DAW which handles MPE, microtuning and some other advanced stuff like the bigger desktop DAWs.
Of course i can understand that i can't have that all and maybe it makes even no sense on a small mobile device.
But i still know.....NanoStudio 2 will be awesome sauce :)

  • Ok, we just hit December in the UK.

Which means it's the month of Xmas...

    and Nana-Studio 2!! :)

I know audio comes later but, has Nano AU support?

  • thanks... that’s great :)

  • Will it actually land this year, what is the latest update?

  • No Audiobus, so far. The good news: It maybe will have the "$999 'insane virtual diamond pack' IAP" instead!

  • I am hopeful but protecting myself from disappointment by way of deep breathing and repeating "....at some point is more than good enough....'

As far as I’ve seen, Audiobus is out in general as Blip believes auv3 is the best way forward and I agree. Audiobus has its place in my heart but I find myself needing it less and less. Also, Audiobus 3 performs significantly worse on my 2017 12.9 Pro than Audiobus 2. As much as I love BeatMaker 3, I am so excited to use nanostudio 2. I haven’t seen more than screenshots and I’m hyped. I really hope it comes this month, but I’m definitely not holding my breath. It’s been mums the word on the official nano forums.

  • Well, I kind of disagreed. While no AB would be someone’s way of workflow, for me, it’s the way to go and since it also hosts AUs I find myself using it daily.
It’s ok for other developers to include or exclude technologies but AB3 is standard for me.

Ya it’s totally subjective and my thoughts on ab3 are my own for sure. I’ve just been trying to streamline the workflow as much as possible. As it stands today, I personally feel that with the advent of AU, AB has become a disjointed affair. When it was the only way to get things done, it was a godsend. However, it just gets in the way for me now. Too much setting up and checking on I/O and troubleshooting whereas AU’s act just like vst’s in a desktop environment and feel native. I definitely see how excluding it from NS2 altogether will be seen by many as a misstep. Who knows, maybe he will end up adding it at some point. Options are awesome and I would welcome the addition so others can create the way they are used to as well!
