Excellent, thanks for that tip!
Thanks good method
If you're using a drum thingy, such as Polyplex, you can add the 8 drum pad notes in the MIDI channel, and set an audio channel to record it. That way all you have to do is change the Polyplex patch, hit record, export audio and move on to the next one. You could grab all the kits in half an hour, probably.
BM3 makes chopping the Live Polyplex samples a doddle - set Auto-slice to Split/8, tweak, save to pads and you can then save the bank itself.
I wonder why not using f.e. Polyplex directly.
Just a serious question. While i also export/import stuff and samples i asked me why i should add another step into the workflow.
And since here already some people export their Komplete and other stuff into iOS apps the term "iOS music" is confusing even more
I just let the sound sources where they are or i really process them a lot.
If you're using
Polyplex is on the PC, so I'd use it via Ableton or Logic on the laptop.
Grabbing the samples and bringing them into BM3 means I can work on the iPad as well, and throw my iOS apps into the mix.
Also I'm enjoying the BM3 workflow, and starting to prefer it to Live and Logic.
IMaschine expansion packs are dirt cheap too, I have all but the latest 2 (London grit and street swarm) only because at the end of the day, I found the app lacking to much. Im going to be exporting a lot of those kits out to BM3. Its going to take a while though.
Update on using BM2 kits in BM3: downloaded a bulk file-renamer (free to try) appropriately named "Advanced Renamer" (windows, though probably they have mac)
The IAP stuff (banks, kits, instruments, loops) from BM2, and the factory ones that shipped with it (which I've found useful) all load as they should, including all keyboard mappings, once filenames are changed from .bmk2 to .bmk3.
The only small issue is, in the case of the keys presets, each bank loads with the Attack set quite long, and pad set to Hold, which is easily tweaked of course.
Thanks for starting the thread @1P18
One reason to get external packs in the case of BM3 is What the packs are: several of the Puremagnetik packs zero in on select vintage instruments which I've not seen offered elsewhere as well as being formatted for BM3 (I believe). In theory these are Great reasons to invest assuming that they are well done.
From what I can tell the Puremagnetik packs are reduced(?) versions of the full desktop counterparts. Though perhaps not in all cases: the list of desktop Vintage Drums is similar to what 1P18 has detailed above while the Vespine pack (for example) in BM3 is about half the size of the desktop version (most IAP's don't note pack size so it's hard to quantify and the 'Sound Packs' Intua page is currently a 404 Error). Gonna dip my toes in and report back.
How are you planning on transferring iMaschine samples to bm3. I am trying to sample them using iMaschine through audiobus 3 but I can't even get the app to reliably load and if sometimes if does nodohnc cones through ?
Do you have access to an older device with an earlier iOS? I'm pretty sure your purchases are sandboxes on iMaschine 2, but you can get at them in bulk from an earlier iOS install of iMaschine 1
No i don't that's a pain. But I think I found a way. Apparently there might be an app out there that allows you to go into the root folders on your iOS device and copy whatever you want from there onto your desktop then obviously Dropbox etc etc which sounds a lot easier than anything else I've come across so far.
I know of a couple apps that do that digging into the root folders, iFunbox and iMazing (Apple tends catch up with them and tends to close the filepaths in the newest iOS. I'm not sure you can get at iMaschine 2 stuff anymore. My kid used to use the upload to SoundCloud with iMaschine to send clips with hits from each set, then pull the stuff down into his laptop...again not sure if SC method works anymore)
Its easy, start a new song in IMaschine, load each bank up with the kit you want to import into BM3, I suggest naming the song after the expansion pack your exporting , then go back to the menu and export for Maschine, then send it to Dropbox ( I assume you have dropbox on your Ipad? if not, get Dropbox lol ) It will send it as a zipped file.
Now go to Dropbox app and select it ( it will say .zip file can't be previewed, ignore that ). Now export it ( click on the 3 dots in the top right corner ) and choose " open in " and pick Beatmaker 3. In BM3 you'll get a message that reads " Unzipped content available in the 'Imports' directory." Thats it.
You will also see the Maschine project file itself, you can delete that as well as the" read me" file . Now the way I described it is how you can do it all on the Ipad itself, but you can also use your computer and access the IMascine files before you import them into BM3 and organize the content as you like and make it neater. You'll see though.
( I forgot....when you make the song in IMaschine, make sure you dont have any reverb or effects on or they be part of the sounds, unless thats what you want )
I'm sure it's already been covered somewhere, but the importing of samples is a lot easier than I've seen in any of the videos. I see a ton of possibilities, but the first one that came to my head was the slicing up of one single sample. Instead of breaking it all apart into tedious little bits and importing one at a time, I just go into DrumJam or ThumbJam and record the drums/notes I want in audioshare one after another in the progression I want on the pads. Then you just lift that into BM3, slice, hit save and assign it to pads automatically. I'm finding tons of useful ways to use that little workflow, and they've all been drenched in awesomeness. I'm trying to figure out scenes too because when I've been blindly clicking around on that I've come up with some neat things that I have absolutely no understanding of how to duplicate. BM3 is very much living up to its hype for me so far, and I'm not a hip hop/edm kind of guy at all. I'm really enjoying the exploration so far. But I cannot imagine why anyone would ever purchase a pack if they understood how to sample. It's dead simple, dare I even say "intua-tive".
Wonka wonka
And I'm sure there are a million reasons why the tedious way makes more sense in situations, but for getting down quick without wanting to get lost in taps, this is very much working for me right now
Well, after finally wrapping my head around Scene-Mode, sort-of... Very nice feature... Do you think Intua is saving the 'recording' part as an IAP... and Midi export also?
It's possible that you have a much deeper understanding of scenes than I do. In fact, if you understand it at all, you have a much deeper understanding than I do. I was basically that nephew you have that just pushes all the buttons on the stereo when he comes over. No clue what I was doing. So what do you mean by "saving the recording"? Please explain it like you're talking to a second grader.
iMaschine 2 actually pairs well with BM3, because I've always viewed iM2 as more of a sample collection and sketch pad, and importing those sketches into BM3 is easy enough.
As for BM3's packs, they don't appear all that compelling so far.
Well, I got some understanding of the thing today.. It is basically 'Song-Mode' in IMPC pro, 'plus'... where you can set the structure of a song... But with BM3 Scenes, you can change parts radically...
But, there is no way to record those 'Scenes' (that I have seen).. it's a fascinating feature...
I won't mind paying for this feature..
Recordable as audio into the arrangement timeline. (Not as midi into the timeline as of yet).
It is, right? That's what I thought anyway. Haven't tested it since reading this, but I swear I recorded it.
I realize that I only recorded the audio from one "scene" and not the performance. I'm not sure if recording the performance is there or not, but I know I haven't even come close to digging in enough to know for sure one way or the other yet.
you can paste the scenes to the time line by long pressing at the top of each scene, also you can just drag patterns to the timeline and arrange songs that way, Ive been going that route mostly.
To get all the tracks/banks recorded, add an audio track for each, and assign each audio track to its own bank in the audio track settings.
Since we're talking about scenes, can you stack MIDI patterns for a single track (like you can in song mode) and then play them all by touching that location?
Ah! Kudos, hadn't thought of that obvious answer yet. Haven't played with a new app I've enojoyed this much in a while. Don't know if this scenes thing is for me yet or not, but the app is pretty nice so far. I've found myself needing to focus a little or I get lost in every little panel. I typed "knob" originally and realized that didn't come out the way I wanted it to.
Thanks mr striz!
Top tip - thank you!
I see you can Tag & Create Packs in the Sample Browser Edit mode ,
but not in the original folders from where the samples are stored .
Would it not be useful to have these Edit functions available in the source Folder ( Imports, Sample etc) ,
so when we import a folder full of samples we can Tag them or make them a Pack using Select All , before they get added to the Sample Browser ?
I'd certainly find this more useful for my large sample folders I think , or am I missing something ?
Useful Feature Request ? edit have requested on BM3 Forum FR thread.

Bit messy, but you can actually export iMaschine 2 projects to open directly into BM3, so no need to go via Dropbox
