Roland A-01 and K-25m...Users?
Anybody using this combo? It looks really interesting, midi controller, with 8 bit synth, with sequencer, midi in/out, USB, CV, gate...and Bluetooth for iPad...and battery operated
The best part is the combo costs 170€....not bad for all the features, plus the keyboard can house any other boutique synth...

I got one, because of bluetooth capability. Not bad

i have two of the rolands, the ju-06 and jp-08 and had the jx-03..the keyboard is bad, but i'm glad i have them because it's quick and simple and portable when fiddling on the couch. and adding notes to the sequencer is as easy as pushing the step button and the correct key. price might be out of whack though, you can pick up the used boutiques for about the same and they are great, mostly without the keys though i nabbed both with and the keys were just included.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Appreciate it.
Actually I am working on a new setup, based around Pyramid sequencer, sequencing iPad and Ableton.
I need a midi controller (with regular midi, not USB only) and I bumped into the Roland A-01+K-25m pack...The synth is a "bonus". And it has good connectivity. MIDI, USB, BT...so I was wondering...
Since it works as a controller and synth and a sequencer I thought it might be OK?
But some things bother me such as no octaves up/down button, it's done via synth?
How are the keys bad @vpich ?
PS, I don't need the CV Gate
@soundklinik bad might be overstating but they are mini keys and just feel cheap. Hard to be expresive with it. Only plus is that boutiques fit in them, otherwise i would try most anything else.
The octave up and down is done via hidden controls, hitting some buttons on the synths themselves. Have never even seen an ao1 in person so don't know how they do it. . Build quality on boutiques is great though.
Have u looked into the keystep or beatstep pro? If you just need a midi controller and the rest is extra i would suggest something with full size keys and aftertouch and good feel and more knobs etc.
Yes i have the combo and really like it.
I use the module as a bluetooth midi connector for my ipad, routed into logic pro on my mac via usb.
In logic i set up different ipad tracks with diff midi channels - on the ipad, I set up the same instrument and midi channels in audiobus corresponding to the logic ones.
its easy to go thru the channels and play the keys. You can also map the knobs easily
To instruments model 15 is a good one to map to.
Also the the 2 ribbon controllers can be mapped to xy pads like on animoog.
And it has real midi conectors also, i have an ole alesis qs8 plugged in thru that and controls and plays evrything thru my mac flawlessly.
The onboard synth and sequencer are pretty great too! And it can run on baterys and has a lil speaker.
Oh and i have a roland se-02 coming soon thatll fit these keys!
Sorry, octave buttons, midi channel, cc's are all on the midi control page. The othe 2 pages are for the sequencer and synth.
Once i learned it its easy to get around, knobs and buttons feel good.
Thanks @yoyo , very good setup you have and thanks for break up of functions. That combo has a lot of interesting features....all for 163€ delivered.
I am deciding between Roland combo and Samson Graphite 49 for 133€ ....that Graphite 49 is loaded with midi features..and the A-01 is small and has a synth...I got some time to decide...vacation time
All easily done on the fly? Can you have a sequencer going and go on controller page and tweak? Or send notes from keyboard to app?
(I have downloaded the "mini" manual but it doesn't go in depth)
I read that the A-01 is very good quality, with mini keys.
The 3 modes seq, synth, midi, are easy to use on their own and the seq runs on its own and can be clocked and triggered external.and can use keys on a diff midi channel at same time.
But it isnt really esay for me to use all 3 modes at once in a live type situation.
Too much page diving.
I like the keys, being mini and all.
Price is good, i got it for 150$, but the sampson looks good too!
Bluetooth, usb and din midi is the secret sauce for the lil Roland, imo.
That's excellent. I really like the small size and the synth included and the rest. Hard decision between the two.
The multifunction question was to know the limits of the Roland A-01. If it is possible to do a few functions at the same time.
Thanks again @yoyo
