REVERB AUs : RF-1 vs EOS 2 vs Reverb FDN
It's Friday and I'm looking for a good AU reverb to blow some $$ on. What would ya'll suggest?

AudioReverb by Virsyn!
This may sound superficial, but I'm honestly not feeling that UI at all. I'd faster get their AudioEffX.
Either of the the first two would be a good choice.
I only have Reverb FDN because I am an Amazing/Ape completist. Frankly, I never use it.
Good suggestion
Amazing/Ape's whole "All-LFO-everything" concept is just insane, OMG, no other way to describe what can be done with their apps. I do like that but I know, underneath it all, I'm a minimalist.
Don't forget DDMF Envelope. One of my favorites.
Woah, their entire line looks good. Thanks @brambos
I'll just leave this here. It speaks for itself
I love the sound of everything by Audio Damage, but they do seem to use a lot of processor power. I even noticed in Jacob Haqs live stream that he had to freeze everything in place on his iPad Pro. RP-1 is much lighter than Dubstation but I don't own EoS so can't compare reverbs.
I was paid today and I haven't picked up Eos. I love Dubstation so I'm gonna download Eos now. I'm pretty sure it's amazing?
I have EOS and the AmazingN Reverb - they serve different purposes.
EOS is a no-brainer for it's price, it's a great plate replacement that can also fake the 'mushy' character of an RMX-16 quite well (but lacking the nonlinear algorithm of course).
Reverb by AN is an entirely artifical, clear and cool soundspace - but quality.
Vocals sent through this, might freeze to audible ice.
EOS fits a classic vocal reverb much better, also great for some extra sparkle on guitar.
But it doesn't do 'realistic' rooms as convincing and dense as the AD480.
The EOS algorithms were designed by Shawn Costello, but it does not sound (exactly) like his Valhalla Reverbs on desktop. Just an observation, no judgement in any way.
I didn't find a convincing sound example for the DDMF yet, some hint would be much appreciated. Preferably with dry and wet recordings.
Nobody a fan of Blamsoft Zero Reverb AU? I use it on pretty much everything
+1 on your observations on EOS and the Amazing Noises reverb. The Amazing Noises is more of a special effect, and the EOS is more for general purposes to my mind. I too am intrigued about the DDMF.
It is a very good reverb that is criminally overlooked.
Good call!
Pro R And AltiSpace but they aren't au . I don't agree with the blamsoft , it has poor quality imo
If i had to choose one in iOS i vote for Audio Reverb since i can really edit it in many ways.
But then you need to say what kind of reverb you need/want. A transparent one for decent reverb, a thing for weird sound design stuff and really large and dense reverbs or whatever.
In general there is a reason why there are so many reverbs. Each can have pro and contra depending on what you want to achieve.
In general i prefer algorithmic reverbs over IR reverbs.
I´m a reverb junkie and i´m still waiting for the ultimate iOS reverb
My fav iOS Reverb. Sounds fantastic! Everything they've produced sounds top notch. I wish Zero Reverb had low pass and high pass dials though
@reV01D Thanks for the video. Sounds great. Also my OCD steers me towards apps that mirror each other on iOS and Desktop (ie DRC, Gadget etc)
CPU is actually a massive consideration for me (iPad Air 1stGen). I always steer towards leaner apps and minimal processing power. Very good call. Thanks.
Noted, I'm not a Pro so I never really thought about what type of sound I end up with. But I'll start considering that.
Totally new to these terms. I do not know the difference between Algorithmic vs IR. I'm gonna google this. But still, can you briefly explain?
IR reverbs are mainly based on samples from real rooms, halls, places etc. (impulse responses) to achieve a more realistic reverb.
Algorithmic reverbs are based on calculations doing it in real time via algorithms. That has the pro that you can change and morph sounds, add modulations etc. but they could sound more fake if you want to go for reality.
But these days there are a few very advanced algorithmic reverbs which are much better for my taste, more versatile and also can create really out of space reverbs you never could achieve with IR reverbs.
Some reverbs can also combine these.
There isn´t really an outstanding reverb on iOS (for a really huge space sound design reverb junkie like me) available yet but for the prices they are for sure O.K.
It also can help to have different reverbs in a mix to achieve more dynamic/variety. Some reverbs, even if very tweakable, having a kind of distinct character. Combining 2 or more reverbs for one sound is also a common thing which can be hard if a reverb aliases (simple said creating unwanted noise which can evolve and make the whole sound muddy and you lost a lot details).
Then there are some really reverbs which might also offer additional things for sound design to really morph a sound in a totally different thing.
So first you should ask you what you mainly use. Synths, acoustic instruments? Do you like using much reverb or using it just decent etc.
But reverb is (for me) THE most important thing of any sound. Even very subtle reverbs you might not hear in a sample can tend to a lot greater experience. You often just would hear the difference if someone removes the reverb completly.
My fav reverb would be maybe the only tool i always would buy again beside a DAW.
So Audio Reverb would still got my vote but that is a personal thing and sadly you can´t test all the iOS tools.
I can just recommend to try to search for some audio examples or better good you-tube videos to see what you could like the most.
Maybe some friendly people here even could post some sound demos with different reverbs with a sound source you might want to use (i would do that too if you have a suggestions and could also post some examples from different reverbs).
Then you might think about if you want to tweak you own reverbs or looking for a reverb with a lot different flavors of presets.
But beware.....at the end you will buy them just all
Agree with @Cib. What kind of instrument you intend to use with reverb?
Crystalline is amazing. On par with Valhalla’s reverbs and even some boutique guitar reverb pedals. Unfortunately, not AU. But, it does save the last state opened and is pretty stable in Audiobus and AUM.
I have them all, but DDMF Envelope always seems to delight.
Tried all mentioned here (except audioreverb) and this is still my favourite. I have tweaked it just right so that nothing else I try in its place can surpass it to my ears
that's correct, but Crytalline is more of a spatial detuning effect than what one would associate with reverb as a kind of virtual ambience.
Being a fan of electronica / dance / hip-hop and everything you can get in between nowadays, I put subtle to medium reverbs on almost everything except my kick. Nothing overtly noticable except on the leads /pads. I love that that wide all-consuming reverb on a trance lead synth pad.
After much consideration, I may go with EOS for now. Although it's CPU intensive, I'll use it on the 'sends' instead of various instances. All other iOS reverbs, including the one in BM3 sounds (as ya'll correctly described) 'metallic'.
Sidenote... my favourite software reverb ever was the RV7000 in Reason5. I really need to buy an updated copy of Reason now that they have VST support.
Im also into AU reverb........I want to buy one..... altispace is really my favorite..second being AUFX space....Im curious about EOS2 ...i was terribly disappointed with Rough rider 2 ...so fingers crossed .. I don't think i will try RF-1 simply because the I found RP-1 too bugged despite all the updates...
Virsyn AudioReverb is best (if you can live without Auria Pro and the leader of leader: Fabfilter Pro-R)...
But, unfortunately the UI in AudioReverb doesn’t always show up right in many hosts, like Beatmaker 3...

The UI looks like this:
I'm no expert but getting better at using compressors, but I did find Rough Rider 2 pretty good/ simple/ works as advertised. What didn't you like? Admittedly I went ahead and got AUFX:Push also because I specifically wanted to sidechain for some ducking. It's not AUv3, but still quite a solid compressor.
As mentioned previously I eventually got EOS 2. It definitely doesn't sound metallic as I've heard other reverbs, so that's a plus, also the interface is pretty simple. Still testing but I think I'll stick with it in the long run.
Sidenote... Why the hell the maker of AUM has AUFX Space/Push/Dub/PeakQ, but NONE of the FX apps are actual AUv3 units? I mean... lol
Sidenote to sidenote - totally love Kymatica apps for real (AUM is the best shit I ever bought) but seriously wtf is up with that?
the usual suspective f* up - time ...

When Jonathan started developing there was no such AU in IOS.
It's a significant effort to transfer processing from one audio environment into another.
He's probably got more than enough to do with current projects and his 'classic' stuff runs flawless, let alone few would be willing to buy those apps again.
The man got to make a living, too
