WHAT YOU USE? AUDIOBUS 2 or 3?
Which one do you use?
I think it would be cool to know at this point who made the leap and who is clinging to the past like some hopeless romantic. me...........................
Me, I am still on AB2 on my iPADs.
I beta AB3 and run the shit out of it, but for my actual sessions I use AB2.

You already can use core midi in Audiobus 3 if you just host the IAA apps in the audio page. But then there is no midi routing in AB2. I seriously recommend using AB3 if you have it. So much more fun for playing with midi
Right but cannot then use the MIDI effect apps.
Sort of the new features, just core midi with an open format. In which a user selects and directly routes the apps and midi with the new MIDI features of midi output apps and multi instance, along with effects.
WITHOUT HAVING TO DO IT WITH ANOTHER APP.
I am aware of the conversion. It is cool. But, I would just like the features of the GUI of AB3 with the old core midi as a natural use mode. Not adaptor or time and resources required.
Good post though for those who didnt realize that. Good point.
But you can use the midiflow adapter so you can use core midi with AB3 midi filters. It is another app, but it's an Audiobus midi filter so saves in AB setups easily. But I'm not sure why you would want to use core midi if it's easier to use AB3 midi?
Yeah. True. You are totally right with what you are saying.
AUM (with full midiflow app)
Audiobus 2 its abandonware.
I own AB3, fired it up a couple of times, put it away and use AB2 everyday. I haven't had that awe ha moment with it yet.
One in every crowd......................
This would be my preferred setup too (not got MIDIFlow app as yet).....the MIDFlow plugins and AB3 work..but I find having all the filters as separate apps a real pita....
Yeah I agree it can get messy. Nothing stopping someone else writing an all in one filtering app though I guess.
My usual setup is both AB and AUM together, AB hosting the midi apps and AUM mixing and hosting the audio apps.
Can I ask what type of iPad(s) you use? Audio interface?
I am asking because one of my bugaboos is opening as FEW apps as possible.
Less chance for issues, less CPU.
I find that on 1 iPad Air 2 --- I can use Animoog, LayR, and 1 other app with Genome into Loopy.
So, that pushes my Air 2 right to the fine line of no glitches or issues. By a hair.
Air 2, iconnectaudio 4. I do feel the need to update to a new ipad as soon as I can afford it though as I'm always pushing it too much.
@Carnbot, @RustiK
Can you explain which MIDI apps you would like to see combined? In other words: Which apps do you use in combination so often that it would be better to have them in one?
My use case (even though you didn't ask me)
Note filter (i.e just let C3 through), transpose (make that C3 a C#3) and randomise (add some humanisation to the timing and velocity)
And then again for D3 but make it D#3
and again for E3 but make that F#3
And the input of these is from Core MIDI
the randomisations are different on each note
so far that 12 instances of filters and that is just to map Kick snare and hat from a Circuit to Ruismaker
thanks
I don't think this is an accurate statement. The developers of Audiobus put effort into making sure Audiobus 2 continued to work as expected for those who continue to use it. Backward compatibility in the Audiobus 3 SDK insures that when developers update their apps to support Audiobus 3, the app will continue to function in Audiobus 2.
In addition, Audiobus 3 is a response to existing MIDI setup and sync issues users have on iOS for music making as well as supporting additional features added to iOS such as AU while at the same time supporting people who choose to stay with Audiobus 2. By offering both Audiobus 2 and Audiobus 3, the developers eased the transition to Audiobus 3 as with any new app offering new functionality that can interact with hundreds of other apps-- there will be unanticipated glitches. If Audiobus 2 had just become Audiobus 2 version 3.0, all users would have had limited choices in response to Audiobus 2 version 3.0 issues. If the user had not backed up their Audiobus 2 setup they would have had no choice.
Hi johannes,
One feature you might think about: what about adding %probability for each of the paramaters in the Randomizer?
+1 for probability. Also you can't use the randomiser multi instanced with different values for each, they are the same for each instance...
I think the thing also is that some of the midi basics would be more convenient built into the host like in AUM rather than having to load an app each time but that's the concept of AB.
What do you mean have them in one?
Speaking in the context of AB3 or AB2?
Being that you are perhaps the most influential developer regarding MIDI on Audiobus, I want to be sure I fully understand your question?
If this helps, I can say I use Genome(100% of the time), Fugue Machine, and Steps(Reactable guys) of the time on iPAD.
Infinte, Steps, Analog MIDI Seq., and Argpeggio on iPhone.
Or are you asking the instrument apps I am referring?
I can say one thing that pops up are the new Supersynths with all the multi timbral and multi channel action.
Then we have Sampletank.
Also, I sometimes use 2 midi apps to drive same and different apps at one time.
It is so easy with Genome to just pick channel and bang. That's it. No matter what or where.
THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE IS WHAT BEST SUMS UP EVERYTHING I FEEL IN THIS THREAD AND IN MY WORKFLOW.
Please let me know if I am not correctly answering in order for me to.
This is super important to me.
Always Three here .
Since audiobus 3 was released I haven't been able to get things working as usual anymore in audiobus 2, although I have tried. Lots of 'error' status and connectivity issues started popping up so I figured it was no longer supported. AB3 seems to be getting better, but don't use it as much as I used to since moving on to AU.
Did you remove 3 on the device you wanted to use 3?
That was an issue for me.
Once 3 was gone it was fine.
Let me put something out there.
I have no knowledge of anything about the inside choices of anyone.
I WOULD PAY FOR AN Audiobus 2 PLUS APP....................
I would think it could regain the lost AB3 sales at least a good number of them and maybe add some new entry level AB users at the time.
I don't expect a rewrite of 3, just an option (IAP) or new one that does what has been discussed.
Sorry, RustiK I was actually refering to this:
and
My intention with making those independent MIDI apps for Audiobus was to keep each very simple, while Midiflow (standalone) is/seems more complex for new users. Reading those comments above, I wonder which apps should have been combined.
Personally when ever I use the Randomizer I always have to load the scales plug in as well.
You mean your apps!!!!
OH OH OH
Interesting thought.
I never would have been so bold to say "um you coulda did betta".............my parents burned the pitfalls of that mindset into my deep conscious...........
So cool this discussion is happening to be totally honest.
I like grown ups just giving real opinions based on informed experiences and no one getting mad or trying to spin things.
AWESOME THREAD FOR ME PERSONALLY.
THANKS ALL WHO ARE INVOLVED.
SNOW?
Snow? ? I don't like totally random notes.
