I like modstep...Stagelight has me not so motivated to revisit it though. Perhaps a new version will compell me. My guess is by then, Stagelight will be leap years further down the yellow brick road plus it platform agnostic.
@chandroji It has it's own tricks but persistence pays off. I'm finding it quite great, stable and once I got into it's way of thinking quite fun to work in.
Be sure to watch the Haq Ataq vids on the YouTubes.
+1
I think a lot of the complaints about bugginess were early IAA problems, not necessarily Modstep's problems. If you're excited by theme-and-variation songwriting, I don't think there's a quicker app available to build something up, except maybe Groovebox. But then there is zero automation in Groovebox and that's what Modstep is best at....
Just in case anyone else is/was looking for the Jakob videos (which I couldn't seem to find on his youtube channel) they're here:

Automation wise, the ability to save and recall instrument-specific CC templates for hardware (or apps) is gold. The DIGITAKT doesn't even have that.![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
Yes! This is the main reason why I purchased. Volcas, etc.
Modstep looks very promising!
Because Ableton Live is my DAW on my Desktop System I had a look for Modstep from the very beginning. I like the concept using clips and scenes.
To work within timelines like in Xequence or Cubasis/Auria is quite different but I can manage it.
I know Modstep can be a little bit difficult to get in but I’m curious... 😊
Happy that I finally got It!
This will soon be a part of your workflow 👊🏼™️

I definitely keep an eye on Stagelight. I even beta tested and it has a lot going for it.
However....no tempo change. I rarely write a song with no tempo changes.
I’m surprised tempo change hasent been implemented more. Should definitely be in Stagelight clip view.
Is modstep similar to xequence ??? Trying to see if I need it too, as I have xequence already
I also have steppolyarp, gestrument, rozeta, xynthesizer,, I know they all run separately in AUM or Ab3 and modstep is kinda all in one place, so how does it differ otherwise.. in terms of creative differences
No, not really. Xequence is linear timeline based, kind of like Cubasis without audio.
Modstep is more clip/loop based. You build up patterns, then can launch them to loop in various combinations, and organize them into scenes to launch all at once. Modstep can host instruments inside itself (though, for stability reasons, many choose not to. It also has a synth and a sampler.
They are similar in that they are both excellent midi sequencers.
that's good info ! So do you route thru AUM then ?> @wim said:
Personally, I use AudioBus as much as possible, and AUM when I need its abilities. AUM is a good choice though, yes.
Modstep is more like Gadget's sequencer meets Ableton. It is organized around clips (short single instrument sequences) and scenes (a row of clips for different instruments.
You can live trigger scenes or combinations of clips which queue up when you tap on them. You can play clips from different scenes by tapping on them.
It has deep modulation sequencing and is much more than I described.
Very different from Xequence. Jakob Haq has made a few short tutorial vids.
Thanks guys I pulled the trigger last minute of the sale!
Welcome to the club. I found these videos indispensable when learning modstep:

Is modstep still alive?
It hasn’t been updated in like 18 months
I hope modstep is still alive because i have a weird issue with pitch and modwheel at the moment.
I am running modstep together with AUM and play on a bluetooth midi keyboard.
When loading a AU in Modstep pitch and modwheel are running fine but when i play in a into modstep and send the midi data to an AU loaded in AUM mod and pitch are not working. Instead the AU receives chaotic midi cc information. The same happens in cubases. I cannot send pitch an mod to an AU loaded in Cubasis when playing live.
However when i record pitch and mod actions into a modstep loop ( while not sending it to AUM AU) and then playback the recorded loop back to an AUM or Cubasis AU pitch and mod are working.. only not when playing live :-(
Anyone else has this issue?
This is so said. Modstep is so awesome.. i hope this bug will be fixed..or someone finds a workaround..
Have you contacted the developer? If not that might be worthwhile.
Noticed MusicAppnews on twitter report that the app had an update but I do not see it.
Maybe audio loops are being released finally???
Nop, It’s not. This twitter account is useless
One more time... and @cblomert Could you update us about Modstep state... please?
No response yet
I try to contact the developer many times in the past, without any success.
You could try the developers forum, there’s a Modstep section. Post a question there![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Never heard of that forum before, and kind of hard to find it - no link from modstep.net or zerodebug.com. But it was found in the end, only to see that the Modstep category had 0 posts ...
Anyway, they did write this in the forum on Oct'18:
