Is anyone using Pulse extensively?

As advertised, it is jam packed with functionality in an easy interface and yet I don't quite know what to do with it. Theres a weird length limitation on imported audio, you can't get much more than 3 bars. Anyone doing anything cool with this?

I can't say extensively, the release of BM3 took over my device - I deleted tons of stuff once I started digging into BM3, but I did keep Pulse on iPad and iPhone and continue to fool with it. Competition for my limited music making time - among the newest stuff and updated stuff, breaks down to BM3/KRFT/Pulse.

The problem for me these days (as opposed to 2010) is that there are so many variations on the workstation app idea (mini-workstations or full blown "DAWs"). Each one does some things very well, while missing some features, and they each have their brilliancies and charms. Pulse for example. And appeals of a given playground can pull me in for a few sessions before moving on. Which means I have works-in-progress waiting to be continued in a dozen different apps.

  • I've loaded Pulse with some favorite samples and typically love what comes out of sequencing within. Theoretically all Pulse operations Could be replicated with other workflows and apps but in times I tried this it's never the same so I let Pulse do what Pulse does and that earns it a place in my often-reached-for folder.

    This is very well put.

Do you program the notes or do you use the little keyboard or both?

So far I've just plopped notes in via the grid. I'm confident that I'm using less than 50% of Pulse's capability and it already feels mighty.

  • Does anyone know if my deleting all or most of Pulse's preloaded samples will significantly reduce the MB size of the app?
I like to keeps things lean if possible.

When I look at the app in Settings/General/Storage and iCloud Storage/Storage/Manage Storage, it says out of the apps total footprint of 175.4 Mb, the app itself is 84.3...the rest is their samples, my 5 samples, and about 12 bars of a project.

Thanks for checking, but it looks like it restores deleted preloaded samples whenever one restarts the app. It appears that I will not be able to keep it lean and light. Oh well...

  • Not used it myself but Chip Boaz mentioned it on one of his podcasts and does a mini-review here. May be of interest.
Also, I think it's mentioned in Episode 41 of his podcast
