On the side note, I will be doing manual backup of my files with iFunBox...
I will NOT be able to do the iOS11 install with iTunes since it can not install it without doing a backup first...
So it's risky OTA iOS11 install and then backup to iTunes if it works
Talk about bleeding edge...
I perform the back-ups of my IOS devices (air 1 and air 2) via Itunes on macbook pro.
I created a library on an external hard drive (1 t); at the start of itunes, press the alt key, and create a new library on the selected disk. You can then save without being limited.
After a reset, the ipad is restored completely, without any problems.
To go back to the original itunes library, restart itunes with alt key, choose the library you want.
It is possible to create as many different libraries as necessary.
Excusez mon anglais, je suis francophone …
I've been doing that for ages, but my backup got 'corrupted' and I can't make a new one...
(the system logs indicate 'read-error'(iTunes backup error -10) from iOS device and then disconnects the device).
The way I see it, I will just back up the 'data' from the Apps I use the most, do a 'factory reset' and re-install the apps I really need
Bro, i was having similar issues with my PC not detecting my iPad or iPhone. Did a google search and it was iTunes. No matter how many times I tried to update the stinky iTunes, it seemed to update but it didn't fully update to latest version of iTunes. So i did a complete total delete, all traces of iTunes from my pc. Finally got a program called CC CLEANER, and it estates all traces of iTunes from the PC cache and i forgot what the other thing is called, but wher all programs store their setups etc. Well, it worked. I then rebooted twice and ran the installer as new program for iTunes, not update. It worked! My iphone and iPad were now easily recognized immediately.
Also, the issue you might be having with your USB ports going to sleep half way through backup or restore, might not be the ipad at all but the PC. There is a setting where you can turn off that windows will not turn off the USB port or send it to sleep. Google it. See if that works.
My last recommendation would be to do a complete OS reinstall on your PC and see if that fixes any corruption in the operating system.
Last but not least, you might want to try backing up on a friends laptop or pc and see if that works. If it does, then you have ruled out your ipad that its ok, and your PC as the culprit. Hope this helps friend!
I'm seriously considering a 'Fresh Start' once iOS11 drops (in case the backups still don't work after the update).
It's quite re-assuring to know I'm not alone with these iTunes -10 bugs... (I mean I tried with 3 different computers all give the same error so). It is an iTunes issue, it just sucks at managing/creating it's own backup database once the amount of files on the devices increase...
