MPD pad controller for iPad Pro (and BM3)
Hey there, so I've been thinking of getting an MPC Live, but I just realised I can get an iPad Pro 12.9 and an MPD226 for about the same price. Does anyone have any experience with this combination?
Specifically - how is the MPD226 powered? Does it need it an external power supply? I'll be running it into the USB host port of my ICA4+.
Also, the plan is to use BM3 - does anyone have any experience running BM3 with an MPD226? How is it?
Thanks for your thoughts, any help appreciated.

Keep a certain button pressed whilst the MPD226 is connected, it will go into iOS mode. Does not need external power.
i have both. i use usb hub. use the velocity limit midiflow app to avoid double notes. pads are mad sensitive but the ghost notes can be controlled by the plugin. i love it.
Oh that is awesome. Realise I can use Midiflow and then get the MPD218 then. I prefer the compactness and the deisgn - the dealbreaker was that threshold and sensitivty couldn't be edited, but this basically solves it. That's killer. And thanks @zeroeseight for the tip about iOS mode.
np!
I just got the MPD226 and was wondering what threshold you are using for the velocity limiting to prevent the multi-triggering? I don't find it's happening too often, but would like to eliminate it as much as possible.
So based on your info, I picked up an MPD218 today for 95€, instead of spending 1199€ on an MPC Live! It works very well with Midiflow and Beatmaker, and the latency for finger drumming is barely noticable at 64 samples, so I am very pleased with the results. Also glad I could get the smaller 218, because I like the design more, so that's a plus. Thanks.
hey i just saw this! glad it worked out!
