Zoom LiveTrak L-12 with iOS support

My mixer of 10 years is finally near it's end, so it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for something that's got some nice bells and whistles for us iOS musicians. Zoom is putting out this new Livetrak L-12 that looks fantastic for obvious reasons. 12 channel mixer, interface, in-ear monitoring to 5 outs, and a direct digital recorder all in one. Anybody using the other Zoom mixers and can attest to their quality? I know their guitar pedals are crap, but their recording products are fantastic. The Keith McMillen Kmix is on my radar too, but this Zoom just looks sweet! Heres a video... Thoughts?

  • side chain comp?

  • The guitar pedals are far from crap, at least the bass versions. I have a b1on and an ms60b on my board and they are both excellent. The word on the new b3n is very positive but I have only heard it on youtube.

Zoom makes good stuff for the price point. The sound quality of my q3hd (and the h2 recorder I had before that) is excellent as well.

Agreed. I have Boss GT units, Roland VG units, Eventides, a few EHX pedals, and many Zooms. In most respects the Zoom guitar pedals are not inferior; perhaps their amp modelling is not the best, but I have no use for amp modelling anyway. My old Zoom 9030 half rack still sounds good, and the MS stomps offer some great effects, they are also amazing value for money. Re Zoom's latest announcement; I would like Zoom to make an LiveTrak L-6 or L-8; cheaper and more compact.

Used a few zoom pedals and also thought they sounded inferior to the boss units for sure. Crap, not really but definitely not approaching the quality sound you get from boss, but hey I can not afford the top line stuff all the time and I doubt many of us can. I surely had fun with the units I have owned or even just played. Using a Boss GT-6 now for a floor processor and like that a lot but find myself in jam up pro right on my iPad more often than not.
I had friend who owned a guitar rig from them that also recorded and that was decent. The zoom feel in my view is a bit wiggly(loose ) but the price is definitely right and this unit could be very expensive depending who made it. Let us know what you think if you end up trying it.

I have a Boss GT-8, a GT-001, a couple of VG-8Ex's and a VG-88. I can certainly get better ambient sounds out of my Zooms. The Boss GT or Roland VG reverbs aren't particularly good imho. Though I do think the latest Boss RV sounds great... Definitely depends on your usage scenario; I'm not looking for conventional.

Didnt realize that. Just speaking from experience, but then again it has been awhile since I owned or even looked at a Zoom pedal. I have one of their portable recorders and its great. Hook it up to my phone with an iRig 2 for great sounding Facebook/Youtube live videos.

  • If you are looking for something non conventional sound wise then these could do it well perhaps. I can definitely see it used for that. When you want real guitar work more conventional then choose the Boss imo.

  • Hi Newby here. Just got one of these Livetrak L12. From Zoom
I found the pres sound pretty good. I haven't had the chance to give it a serious task, but with a 58 straight in, they have a decent tone about them. Warm, clear and transparent which should be even better with some real pre amps. Fair bit of headroom and all that.
What Is curious is how their manual doesn't go into detail operations in the various platforms they claim to be compatible with. Sorry, I need them. I'm not a master of all guy! Lol.
So, I'm puttin it out there I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to this. The product is exciting and shows great potential. I just wish there was more guidance.
Maybe that's what I need and maybe someone here may be able to shed some light?
    Gratitude.

  • That looks like a really useful thing to have....it is a real shame it doesn't have some sort of sync output to enable sync to my sequencer :| I'd be all over this if it did.

  • Can the K-Mix work as a stand-alone recorder ?

No SD or hardrive to store to. If you had and accompanying recording device of some sort it would work. But the K-mix itself does not have any recording capabilities. Can act as stand alone mixer or interface.

Cheers for the info...cross that one off the list too then :(
I am looking for a stand alone multitrack recorder that will also send or receive MIDI sync...
