*Guitar Players...New MIDI Guitar device*

New device looks interesting. We've seen this type of product before... Band in a Box software, Postive Grid X Drummer, DigiTech Trio+ pedals. I'm not really interested in the auto-backing-tracks part of this thing, although it looks pretty cool anyways. I'm looking at the MIDI Guitar function. Claims it's zero-latency... And you can use it with whatever software... I wonder if it can hold a light to the Fishman TriplePlay? I'll be keeping my eye on this... Thought I'd share....

  • Looks interesting. My guess is it uses lasers to detect each individual string vibration and converts that directly into midi data. There's no complicated pitch detection, so there's little to no latency.

The only issue I can see is that it would interfere with one's playing style with the device looming over the bridge like that. Otherwise, it looks really nifty.

  • Fascinating. I'll follow this one to see how it pans out... I agree that I'd want to understand how palm muting works.

  • Looks fun.

  • Interesting, but the device itself looks bulky and I'm not sure how much faff it would be to reliably get it working (time and time again after recharging it) outside the context of a slick promo vid. Probably not something to be relied upon in a live context ...

Great to see tech progressing and all that but if I want to track my playing I'll stick with the MIDI Guitar 2 app. The backing track thing seems a bit cheesy too.

    Uncle Grumps Out. ;)

  • Yes I agree it does look very bulky compared to the tripleplay for example where the pickup sits nicely under the strings and out of the way. Palm muting techniques definitely would have to adapt to having that thing there. I honestly wouldn't have any use for the backing track stuff, and I agree it seems a bit gimmicky. I bought one of those DigiTech Trio pedals last year just to try out the technology and see what it was all about, took it back the very next day and got myself a beatbuddy instead. I love the Midi Guitar 2 app, but it gives me troubles quite frequently with my Pro, Air 2 and iTouch 6 gen. I have heard there are no such issues with the Mac version. I have spent too much money on other things that I can't afford to get a Fishman triple play at the moment , which I personally believe is the top-notch best Midi Guitar system out there. Nonetheless this little device seems pretty cool...
