OFF TOPIC: Anyone else experiencing motion sickness on iOS 7?

edited September 2013 in General App Discussion

I'm experiencing motion sickness on iOS 7. Like I'm gonna puke right here and now sick. And anyone prone to motion sickness know that shit can stay with you for quite a few hrs. I literary can't use my iPad anymore until Apple and their Fab-5 team fixes this mess. I did a quick google and I'm definitely not alone, also saw a thread over at macrumors with a lot of people getting nausea/motion sickness, puking (even with the smaller iPhone screen) while using iOS 7.

You can disable the parallax effect, and you can also make the new tiny text bolder (system wide) under settings, which seems to help some a bit. But it's, for me and for most others it seems, the new zooming/animation it does when opening and closing folders and apps that is the biggest culprit. I've gotten motion sick from playing games with a wobbling camera (has to do with the frequency of the movement etc), but never from using an OS.

If you know you're prone to motion sickness and haven't updated yet, don't update.

Anyone know of any more solutions btw, except the ones mentioned above? Also, if anyone know of a wallpaper that's just one color and nothing else (no gradient either), easy on the eyes please post it. I'd like to see if that and turning off the transparency helps

Edit: Nm about the wallpaper :/

  • Yes, i do! I also find now that iOS 7 feels slow against iOS 6.1.x. I often try to start an app fast but i have to "wait" before the animation is finished. So i often hit 2-3 times now. Of course it's a minor thing but in general it's another step backwards for me. It looks all nice (....o.k. not all) but for me it lost a bit the "smooth" feeling. Apple... try again ;)

  • Yea but let's focus on the really bad stuff, like the puking. ;) I'm really interested if people getting this have found any solutions. I really hope Apple have taken notice of all the people on the Internet complaining about getting nausea and motion sickness on iOS7, and articles starting to pop up about it. Can't understand how the F they missed that with all their resources.:/

  • I used to feel motion sickness with early versions of Doom

I do if I try to play a game on my iphone in the car whilst the missus is driving, very bad feeling after that .

Ios7 on the other hand is a breath of minty fresh air with a crisp feel. No motion sickness just smooth and slick .

  • A simple black background helps. Download from web or block the camera and take a pic...use as wallpaper. :)

@SpookyZoo Did a short test with a wallpaper I googled, but that one had some gradients. Gonna try the camera thing and see if it atleast helps a bit.

Things is, there are so many new small animations mixed with tiny zooms etc that aren't necessarily noticeable like in-your-face noticeable, but it adds to the whole new iOS 7 "experience", and for someone that's really prone to various motion sicknesses it all ads up. Some animations etc works just fine for people sensitive to all this, but Apple have really managed to find the perfect animation/zoom-mix recipe to actually make people sick en masse, which is a bit weird to put it mildly.

  • An apple a day...

  • I love this animation. Sorry. I'm not the only one either who thinks the movement it produces is kind of cool. If it is extreme for you then I suggest you turn it off or find a wallpaper that works better with the translucency. Some things work better for some people. This feature is not a biggie for me but I like the tilting effect as it makes my wallpaper (Egyptian Pyramid) move against my apps. 3D effect. My iPhone and iPad are snappier under iOS 7. Everything works so much faster. Way faster than on iOS 6. iPhone 5 and iPad 4 btw.

  • @FrankieJay I'm not talking about the parallax movement. The issue is a lot more complex then that.

  • Sounds horrible! I have NOT upgraded, and I don't intend to. I'm hearing so many nightmare stories, like iPads that can't charge, and apogee stuff not working. But hurling while using the ipad definitely the worst result of iOS 7 that I've heard tale of!

  • Sorry it makes you ill. I like the new interface. Particularly like the new way you can close or switch to open apps.

    @ChrisG:

"actually make people sick en masse"

Well,to be honest:that sounds a little bit too polemic to me.Think about how many MILLIONS actually upgraded to iOS7.I haven´t heard or read about that sickness before (in combination with iOS7).That doesn´t mean i don´t believe it nor you are the only one of course.I´m sorry to read this, but i think it´s a clear minority.I can imagine, apple will implement an option to deactivate this effects (wasn´t there a similar option in iOS6?At least OSX has options like this)but i hope they won´t throw them out.I really like the new effects and animations and everything is (mostly)really smooth. In fact, too smooth:the animations (for switching the iPad/iPhone on/off for example)could be faster. They were faster on iOS6.
