Tips for using BeatHawk 2 as live sound module? Specifically, how to quickly change between sounds?
Hi Guys
Ya'll been pretty helpful in the past, thought I would give this a try.
Bought several of the BeatHawk samples when they were recently on sale. Like them so much (acoustic piano, organs, electric piano, accordions) thought I might try using BeatHawk like I use Korg Module - as a "sound module/rompler" for live performances.
NOTE - Not sequencing, nor DubSteppin', nor BlackMIDI jammin, or Trip-hoppin, just plain old "select piano sound, play piano with external keyboard".
However, unlike Korg Module, I can't find an easy way to switch between sounds rapidly, which for me is pretty much a requirement for ROMpler type uses.
Closest I've come is to
- Creat project with sounds on different pads.
- Go to pad mode, select the sound.
- Go back to pitch mode to play the sound with my external keyboard.
Problem with that approach is:
- One has to do a couple of switches to get to the sound.
- When you select the new pad with the sound you want, touching the pad makes the sound....sound. Not a big deal, but when you are routed live through a large PA, such little sound farts can draw disapproving glances from other band members. And rarely approving glances from the audience.
Am I missing an easier way to do this? I realize I could go into preset each time, and go through the folder/file tree to pick the sound I want, but that is not exactly groovy or something easy to do in a "jam band" situation, nor easy for my 50+ year old eyes to deal with.
Thanks,
Roy

I think I remember that each pad responds on a different channel when receiving midi. I think I was able to play each instrument that way. But I could be totally off on this. Cant test at the moment.
To manually change instruments without sounding the pad, you hold down the "Select" button while touching the pad. Not ideal, but does work.
I'm in a similar situation. I think the easiest way would be to load 5-6 instances of BeatHawk in AUM as an AU. Save as preset, and use faders on midi controller to switch between/layer sounds.
However, when bm3 is stable enough, loading BeatHawk into different banks will be great. You can switch between banks with the touch of a button(or midi) and no sound will play.
