Groovebox Poly-8 question

Why do the filter envelope and lfo amount have their amounts labeled in semitones? I've never seen that. Do any of you synth heads know the reason for this?

Comments

  • Well, they both modulate filter cutoff frequency, and any frequency technically corresponds to some note, so I guess it makes some sense. The only difference I can think of is that semitones (or notes in general) are based on logarithmic scale, which might be a bit more convenient. Though I imagine it would require some getting used to.

Not the expert on this typing right now, but this is basically the jist of it. When you're trying to describe an offset related to a pitch in a meaningful way, you have to use octaves or some subdivision of octaves, and this is what we settled on. There are some presets that have a hard 5th or octave resonance to give a chordy feel, and it's a bit easier to make those presets when the scale is in semitones. It's labelled the same way on the Retrobass I believe.
