Eclipse 2017

I got to witness and film the 2017 Eclipse in Atlanta. Where I was at, we didn't get a total eclipse but it sure was close. Anybody else get to enjoy this event?

  • I got to see the totality in northern Missouri. Was pretty cool. Looked like a ... black hole sun.

  • Drove down from Vancouver, BC to Salem Oregon with my brother and nephews. Traffic was awful but worth it.
We had a blast and seeing that two minutes of totality was unbelievable. The temperature started to drop as the sky went dark and then with a last flash of sunlight there was suddenly a black hole in the sky with the corona dancing around it. Simply amazing!

  • edited August 2017

I wish I was able to see the totality myself, but at least there's 2024. A longish time to wait, but I should be able to afford a week-long vacation to one of the viewing locations by then. I'll turn 40 that year, so what better way to celebrate? :P

  • nice ! music works well too

  • I watched it about an hour away from you, Mitch. Fantastic. I was particularly intrigued by the scalloped shadows on the ground.

  • @enc Thanks. I hope it does, lol. I edited the video first, then brought it into Logic Pro X, and started scoring it. So the music was created specifically for the video.

I learned a lot in that process. It was fun making music specifically for a video clip. Everyone should try it. I gained some more respect for people who do musical cues and film scores.

  • Saw totality in Oregon, with a large group of friends, it was amazing!

  • In totality and was so struck by the weird beauty that I'm looking forward to 2024 event. It's just impossible to describe in words how striking a total eclipse is.

Agreed! I experienced it with my family on the beach in Charleston, SC. Greatly exceeded expectations!

  • The only eclipse I've ever seen was in Romania back in 1999 still remember it well though.
Only worry was if it would be dark enough to get the Vampires out.....

I saw the 99 eclipse in Cornwall. It was cloudy everywhere except for the the spot we had chosen, quite amazing luck. I loved it so much that I traveled to Madagascar to see the next one and then Australia to see the one after that. A total eclipse and the northern lights are the two most amazing sights a human can ever see IMO.

  • It's not just the sight though, it's the way everything goes still at totality

  • Saw one of these in the U.K. a few years ago, at least 15 maybe longer. The light was like dusk in the middle of the day, the birds were confused and stopped singing, then it started getting light again. Yawn.

Well the good news from your point of view is you won't have to 'suffer' another one till 2090 should you live that long.

  • I was in totality just north of Bend, OR. Really fun weekend of camping, and we were able to go off road on the way back to skip all the traffic spots too :)
