The Favourites (Doomsday Apps)

I've been having a renaissance with my old friend Impaktor which is completely blowing my mind how sonically capable this thing is. At this point I wouldn't know what one app I'd choose if I had to so instead I thought of different categories to save myself from having to choose.

I know, this is possibly completely pointless but maybe just maybe some of us will discover new things and at the very least the app economy will benefit from this exercise.

Here's my favourites.

Synth: Impaktor

Sampler: Samplr

Looper: Loopy

FX: Turnado

DAW: BM3

Router: AB2

and Gadget, not sure what category it fits exactly. Groovebox?

  • I can't I keep getting too many! UGH

  • The one app I've used in every song I've made for the last 4 years is Auria. Everything else has come and gone, but for me that's the one at the centre of everything.

I also have some love for GarageBand, Gadget, Model 15, and just recently (like two days ago) discovered the joys of sampling in BM3.

  • AURIA PRO, Hokusai 2, DrumPerfect Pro, iPolysix, iMS-20, Model 15, Magellan, DXi, Garageband, LumaFusion.

    Most frequently used:

    Synth: Nave

Sampler: ReSlice - but being replaced by BM3

Looper: Would have been Looperverse, but we had a falling out

    FX: Turnado

DAW: Auria - but being replaced by BM3

    Router: AUM

    Rhythm: Patterning

    Lead instrument: GeoShred

  • Nice one, seems like a mixed bag of new and old apps for most. In my case looks like I got stuck in the past apart from BM3 which I added as a potential, I'm not using any DAW at the moment.

To be honest if Sugar Bytes cared to update all their effects to AU I'd be a happy camper as far as effects are concerned. :)

They've said that it's possible if there's a demand for it. Drop em an email!

    WOW AU would be heavenly

  • Auria Pro
    Blocs Wave
    Fab Filters
    AUM

If there was a way to add AU as an IAP they'd have more incentive to do it.

I think there's something to be said for learning of an app inside out rather than bouncing from one to another like a frog on lilies. This is what I want to do with BM3 as I've got a bit bored with Cubasis' workflow. Believe it or not, seemingly straight forward app like Impaktor still keeps revealing itself to me.

This can only happen if the app is genius enough and if the user spends enough time trying to tap into that genius.

Well I don't know if they will monetise it or not but they told me they are planning it but can't give an exact timeframe

That's great news at any rate. It might be an incentive for some people who don't own them yet. All three of their FX apps completely suit what I do live so being able to have them in more than one instance would be awesome.

  • Synth: XYNTHESIZR
    Sampler: Beathawk
    Looper: Blockswave
    FX: AUFX space SquashIt
    DAW: ---
    Router: AUM
    Rhythm: Luis Martinez drums (all)
    Lead instrument: Figure

  • My Desert Island/Doomsday Apps with honorable mentions in parentheses:

Synth: ARP Odyssei (Moog Model 15)

Sampler: Beatmaker 3 (Blocs Wave-of course more would call it a groove box but it's import & recording of sources through AB3 along with it's albeit rudimentary editor is sampler enough in my book.

    Drum App: DrumPerfect Pro (Patterning)

Guitar App: ToneStack (Amplitube Fender Collection 2)

    DAW: Auria Pro (Cubasis)

FX: Fab Filter Pro Q2, C2, R, etc. (If by FX meaning AU "plug ins", the Audio Damage collecton)

    Router: AB3 (AUM)
