Oh hell yes!
Yay, no midi channels to worry about... err, actually Midi channels are a good thing.
Sure, but Groovebox caters to an Audience that are beginners too. Not only iOS powerusers like you and me.
So I like the fact that they made the system work in a way where people don't have to have all the technical know-how that we have to use a MIDI Keyboard with Groovebox. Besides, I kinda like the simplicity myself.
Who knows, they might make a more andvances system for a future update.
I am a bit of a MIDIphile.......but I also love the fact that i can just plug in, pick up and play, it doesn't suit every situation granted, but this is still very early in the apps lifetime.
I look forward to the day when a dev can drop a three figure price tag on an apps core features and not freak people out.
Thanks
You and me both!
I also find it very refreshing to litteraly just plug and play.
When working with hardware synths and stuff..well over the years I've kinda gotten tired of the MIDI system. I admit that many times I wish routing would just be as straightforward as Audiobus 3 did their MIDI routing..yes even in the hardware world. Maybe I'm just lazy..
My pleasure!
Hi there!
Actually haQ, i 've to disagree with you. At least they could have offered users an option to switch "Midi in", off.
I got my iPad connected to ableton through an audio interface. So all connected controllers to my pc are also sedning midi messages to the app at the same time (as it picks up everything coming in). For my MPK25 its perfect and fast (without possibilities to map e.g. knobs). But as i have a Push connected also, every time i hit e.g. "Session" on the controller, it sends wired midi note messages to Groovebox.
Maybe I''m not clear enough, now i have to close the whole app if I'm not recording a pattern on my MPK (can't play loops or practice live progressions) . Otherwise sounds are triggering and interfering, because a control surface as Push is made to communicate with more midi capabilities (but also with midi channels). It's a waste of money that actually an upgrade made it impossible to keep the app open. And really sad, because i love groveboox's sound engine output..
I wish they weren't so driven by minimalism and simplification. The app is well developed but they lack lot of features other apps have at the same price range. I mean, give people the option to choose. That is truly giving freedom to users.
should i share footage of my issue..?
Thanks for giving the place to discuss this!
@ulyssesdw
Yah the whole 'easy setup' thing just sounds like marketing spin to me. More than likely there were issues/complexity with midi input regarding recording on multiple instruments at the same time etc. I doubt anyone had difficulties with Gadget trying to hook up a midi controller, it is as noob friendly as it gets. Separate channels, separate devices, yet still super simple. But hey, now it says Midi on the app store.
@AudioGus Feeling any better over there Mister Gus?
Fantastic, ran a half marathon this morning!
You Sir are a freak of nature. Well done.
Thanks man. I am also an amazing liar.
We know
Ouch, I never thought of this becoming an issue. Your explanation made me change my mind. I hope that they keep developing the midi aystem.
Yes. A Midi on/off switch under settings (maybe right below Bluetooth Midi) would do it.
Can you select a muted instrument in Groovebox so that the midi input triggers silenced notes? It’s not ideal but might be a temporary alternative to quitting Groovebox.
