modstep never records first note of bar

Am I missing something here? I can never get modstep to record the first note of the bar. It either skips it completely or adds it at the end of the bar. There is obviously no logic programmed in this app to compensate for this. modstep is so frustrating to use. I don't know why I keep putting myself through this. And don't get me started on the lack of "undo". Someone needs to build a "modstep-killer" app so I can delete it once and for all and never look back!

  • I think it's a timing question. I don't think there is a quantize buffer ahead of the beat… and you miss the beat after.

    It's a carnival game.

    That said, I love modstep.

Noones forcing you to use it really. Don't have the problem with the first note not being recorded. What's the buffer setting at ? Also does it happen with record quantise off ?

  • I have this issues also, brought it up before.

I have this issue with more than one app. When I'm listening to a count-in I think I must just always come in just a little bit before the beat. If I consciously force myself to hold off until I'm totally sure I heard that first metronome click, I can get it right about 8 out of 10 times.

I'm not saying that's your issue - just my experience.

  • I think @johnfromberkeley nailed it. There's no quantize buffer ahead of the beat. I remember having this issue with old versions of Maschine. I guess I got spoiled with the MPC. I wouldn't want to go back to editing sequences on the old school MPC again, but boy was that sequencer tight! Never missed the first note.

Thanks for the replies and sorry if I was too harsh. I just get frustrated with modstep because it's so powerful and appears to be quite polished, but these little issues prevent me from using it regularly.

Same. Annoying, because the buffer can't be that hard?
