Nice work! I enjoyed that.
How much that cost?
Can you tune/Fx/parameters per step?
The Roland Boutique TR-09 costs $400. It's the most expensive in the Boutique series. The TB-03 was $350 and the JU-06 and JP-08 were $300 each. Although, I got a nice discount at the local music shop.
It has all the same controls as the original TR-909 from the mid-80s, with a few extra options hidden in the menu. Just like the original, there are no effects and the tuning is limited to certain sounds and is global. I use the iPad for adding effects, although none of the Boutiques are class compliant so you can't send the drum sounds to different outputs. It's still a ton of fun and fulfills my childhood dreams of owning these awesome Roland products. I can't wait for the TR-08 and SH-01A coming next month!
They do look lovely, all those remakes. It is a bit of a wet dream. Did you have a hard time choosing roland over the clones? Im always thinking I want to get a tb303 clone, Im happy just thinking atm thanks to brambos. Very nice, thanks for showing it all off.
Thanks! No hard time at all.
These boutiques are so close to the original that I was easily able to follow the tutorial videos of the original hardware online without any differences in the programming. The TB-03 is my favorite so far because its form factor is the closest to the original. It feels like having the real thing! Plus, like the original, it has CV pitch and gate out which I can send to my Eurorack modules for amazing fun. I love sending the CV pitch from the TB-03 into a quantizer while using a sample and hold module to make all sorts of variations on the original pattern. The latest TB-03 firmware has a random pattern generator which is loads of fun!
After I made that video, I tried out other iPad drum apps including Gadget. Imagine using a real hardware drum machine to sequence the drums in Gadget. I had a smile on my face from ear to ear. Much needed after all the frustration I've had with modstep.
After sending MIDI from the TR-09 to all of my iOS drum apps, I found my favorite one and it was only 99 cents - Beat-Machine. It's easy to create my own kits from samples imported from AudioShare and since it has a full 16 pads, I never miss any sounds. I just made a TR-707 kit with some free samples I downloaded.

Nice vid !
People seem to sit 50/50 with the boutique range. I like em ! I like many, have lusted after a Jupiter 8 since the 80s do was ecstatic when Roland announced the jp08 boutique only to have my fire pissed on when I demo'd one on release. I didn't buy. More recently, I have an itch for the ju06 but now production has seased I noticed price has crept up ... above original RRP.
Cutrently, I have a deposit on a tr08 but the eta has been out back to November (from October) I quite fancy the sh01a but will wait to see indepth reviews before pulling the trigger
